I know some people will laugh, but an occasional google news search I do is for Antoine Walker. I am not sure where his mind and body are at these days, but the latest is he claims he is in talks with about 4 teams on a possible comeback. This probably means very little in reality since I have heard a million retired players say this. This got me thinking, what retired/inactive NBA player would you most like to see make a comeback in the NBA?
A few guidelines:
1) Try to keep it mildly realistic with guys no older then 45 (which is generous). Although some of us would have our minds blown if Tommy H came running out of the gate in a frumpy jersey this would just be a disaster.
2) Try to keep it to players that had some sort of impact in the NBA. For example, if JR Bremer caught on as a third string point guard somewhere it would not really be a comeback in my mind.

Over the past few years I have been disappointed with the failed attempted comebacks by Pippen and Kemp. Who else would people like to see?

Some guys that come to mind for me are
1) Walker (dont hate)
2) Karl Malone (I am guessing he is under 45, but maybe he is not)
3) Shawn Kemp
4) Vin Baker (people will probably be upset at the prospect)
5) David Robinson (although Tommy H is about as likely as this one)
6) Isiah Rider (rumored to be trying to catch on with a training camp right now)
7) Big Country
8) Harold Miner (might break my second guideline)
9) Stockton (I bet he could still be an effective backup PG
10)Larry Johnson
11) Alonzo Mourning

Is Magic under 45?

Is MJ under 100? Can you technically come back after entering the HOF? I could so see him doing that.

BARKLEY!!!!

Does Dikembe count? I know he's over 4500 and didn't leave, but still. Is he with a team?

Spree. His kids gotta eat

Ewing realizes he doesn't get the same action in the VIP room as a coach as he did as a player

Sabonis (is he under 45?)

MONTROSS!!!!!!!!! not

this is harder than I thought it would be

Reggie Miller

Spree is a great one, I totally forgot about him. It would be really ironic for him to comeback to feed his family.

Is this that bad a topic? :(. I figured cause of the constant speculation we have had over the last few years for PJ Brown and Reggie Miller people would be down. Heck there was even an ostertag thread. Man being uninteresting on the internet is about as demoralizing as it gets.

That's tough.  I really can't think of any recent retired stars that could make a comeback.

It would have to be someone like Keith Van Horn, Kerry Kittles or Allan Houston.

I can't think of anyone making a comeback and actually making an impact.

Penny Hardaway could maybe come back, but he stunk for years.

It's crazy to think that Steve Francis was amazing at one point... he's been out of the league for a year. I think he's younger than KG and Ray.

I wouldn't be too shocked to see Chris Webber attempt a comeback or something.

Related question:

Can anyone think of a comeback that worked?

Magic left and came back,  but he left due to HIV, not because he had lost his skills.

Jordan left and made a comeback, but he was the still the best player in the league for both retirements.

I can't think of anyone who hung it up because they couldn't hack it anymore and was able to whip themselves back into shape and be a significant contributor, help me out.

For whatever reason, Rose reminds me a lot of Steve Francis - on the court. I do not know anything about his attitude or character.

Keep in mind Francis was a 20 point 7 assist guy in his early career. It is hard to believe he is out of the league at 29 years old.
"All I have to know is, he's my coach, and I follow his lead. He didn't have to say anything in here this week. We all knew what we had to do. He's a big part of our family, and we're like his extended family. And we did what good families do when one of their own is affected." - Teddy Bruschi

Uh, Franchise is 32.  Still young, but not 29.

Franchise always looked a little puffy to me, like he didn't keep his body in the greatest of shape.  Reminded me a little of ol' 'Toine in that regard.

He had a few injuries, didn't he?  Seems like he got old REAL fast (again, like 'Toine).

Bruce Bowen - don't know if it would count since he hasn't technically been retired during any part of the regular season yet.

Marbury once he sits out for awhile, maybe the whole season; somebody'll take a flier on him.

I thought Steve Francis was technically still on the Rockets Roster. His collapse is pretty surprising because he is not one of these straight to high school guys with a lot of miles. Also from my understanding none of his injuries were of the career threatening variety, more a lot of extended period of being banged up.

As for players that have made a comeback and made a difference. We would have to say PJ Brown made a comeback because he helped us win a title. Although it not a major comeback because he was only retired for one year.

In baseball Pedro Martinez had a pretty interesting comeback this year. I know he started 5-0, but am not sure what he has done since.

In football the patriots have just signed Junior Seau. Yes, I am serious.

Also just found a story on the most successful nba player comebacks successfully http://20secondtimeout.blogspot.com/2007/08/dont-call-it-comeback-10-nba-players.html

Quick, who had a more disappointing Fall-off-a-cliff career:

Steve Francis or Damon Stoudamire?
