About resigning Rondo....

   Are the Celtics making a big mistake by not signing Rondo to that 5 year 50 million contract before the season starts? If he puts up impressive numbers this season hes going to demand a lot more than 10 million per year. A salary of 10 million would have him making 2-3 million less than Chauncey Billups, Chris Paul,Steve Nash, Tony Parker, and Deron Williams. When you look at the salaries of players such as Jason Kidd(8mil) and Kirk Hinrich(9.5mil), Its hard to understand why the Celtics have not signed Rondo to the contract extension he would have reportedly taken.

I don't think there's any indication -- other than the rantings of Cedric Maxwell -- that Rondo would agree to five years, $50 million.  I get the feeling that if he would, Danny would sign him.

Rondo may think he doesn't belong in Boston with the amount of trade talk that led up to the draft this past year. Given his terrific statistical postseason, he may have felt that the trade discussions, which Ainge has admitted to, effectively threw him under the bus for no good reason.

I also think that Ainge, and company, have issues with Rondo's dedication to the team. Fans didn't know until recently that Rajon was punished for his lack of punctuality. This illustrates my point to a tee - there are variables involved that we may not have knowledge of.

I could also be overanalyzing this issue, as there may only be a slight disagreement on what the man is worth.

I grant you some athlete's feel that way, but if rondo is one of them (and i don't think he is) i do not want him as the future leader of my team.

Sport's is a business and you are a professional athlete. It is your GM's job to sound out what might be available for the good of a team and how much you are worth. It is your job to go out and improve yourself and your team to the point where you can get the biggest value contract you can get for your services.

 If you can't separate that from some need to feel appreciated and loved at all times by your GM, or think it's some kind of "dis" or indication that a person doesn't like you, you have a maturity problem, and aren't a great leader IMO.

  Rondo was late for a playoff game because of traffic and he was fined for it. The announcers mentioned that he was late during the broadcast of the game. It was all over the radio this summer. Lots of people knew about it.

I think the relationship between Rondo and Ainge are better than people are led to believe. In Rondos recent interview, he said that he would call his HS coach, his agent, Ray, and Danny if he needed advice.

I know I might be in the minority here, but I think extending Rondo before the season starts is a big mistake. Especially if that player is young and still kind of inexperienced like Rondo. I know Rondo has the makings of a great point guard and is very athletic. However, alot of people seem to forget that Rondo REALLY NEEDS to improve his shooting. Also, he is VERY tentative with the ball sometimes. Along the same lines, it seems like he tries to make fancier plays than he needs to. The job of a point guard is to keep it simple, be a leader and take the open shot when it's there. I don't know that any of this criteria embodies Rondo.

Now I am obviously rooting for Rondo this year to improve his game. However, I will not be heartbroken if Danny decides to hold off. Especially when you look at the amount of good free agents that will be available for 2010/11. And if Rondo commands more than 5/50 million after the season, then don't let the door hit him on the as* on the way out.

Yeah, and I have even heard Max joke about that comment on the radio, inferring that he completely made it up.

I don't think Rondo has that much motivation to sign a contract like that, given the amount of money that will likely be available last year, and his level of confidence in his own abilities.
