Udoka, probably the last serviceable backup SF free agent, signs for a 2nd stint in Portland. This brings up 2 questions for me...

1.) With him back in Portland, does that make a contract like Travis Outlaw more expendable(assuming Ime signed for vet min)?

2.) Are there any other SFs out there willing to work for cheap and play backup SF(Other than Antione Walker obviously)?
Can't stop, Rondo!

  • Doc could learn a thing or two from Norman Dale
I think the veteran SFs who are left are Wally, the Graham brothers (Joey and Stephen), and Gerald.  In other words, a bunch of guys with serious flaws in their games.

I'm not all that worried, though, because Daniels is a SF.  Our 3rd-string guy will be some combination of Walker/Giddens/Tony, which we can live with.

He is not really off the market. His contract in for Trainig camp as far as I know. According to his player profile on ESPN he will be fighting for that spot with four other guys. I think this guy has pretty much done all he will ever do in the NBA. As a third SF, I prefer Billy.

Funny sf used to be THE dominant posistion in nba.  Now look at what is out there!
Makes Bill Walker seem like a good prospect.

Yeah, the team as currently constituted doesn't have room for more 2/3s.  I know it isn't much, but I don't see how Ainge can justify to Wyc and company bringing in someone at a million or so (which turns into 2 million) when they already have Giddens, Walker, and Allen on the roster.  Plus, unless someone gets hurt, whoever we did pick up probably wouldn't play anyway.

I think if the 15th roster spot is going to any FA, it's going to go to someone like Bobby Jackson, who will sure up the backup PG spot.

Stupid decision by Udoka and his agent -- he may have just booked his ticket out of the NBA with this move, not this year but next year.

Udoka isn't going to get any minutes in Portland ... not with Brandon Roy, Nicolas Batum, Rudy Fernandez, Martell Webster and Travis Outlaw all ahead of him in the rotation.

The combination of (1) age (2) only three decent seasons in the NBA (3) not playing next year ... could leave him without a job next summer.

And he made this decision for a partially guaranteed contract? Unbelievable. Very bad decision.

Depends on what his other options were.  I don't think there were a bunch of teams beating down his door with offers...

Udoka's problem was that he was never a very good NBA player as the greatest strength he possesses is that he matches up nice physically.  Daniels is going to run our offense from the point and defend 2's or small 3's on the other end of the floor so i certainly wouldn't consider him a traditional SF by any stretch although he can slide their defensively if Pierce is getting a flow and the other wing is Ray or Tony Allen.
