Daniels can play both guards spots and takes care of the ball. He also plays good defense.  Wolves are ready to let him go.

TA and other spare parts for Daniels would help our 2nd/3rd string PG situation.

Instead of two Allens we would have two Daniels.

What do you think?

How are you going to make the numbers work?  Daniels makes $6.2M, so it would have to be Scal and Tony (which works)...  but I tend to think that either Scal's going to be at least as useful for us this year as Daniels would be, OR that we'll be able to use his expiring contract for someone much better come the trade deadline.

You aren't making a trade today for a guy who's not likely to make the rotation.  You hold onto the expiring contracts so that come February, if we need another wing we can go for someone like Nochioni, or if we DO need a backup PG you go for someone on one of the teams doing a firesale.  Don't waste the expiring contracts now on a "meh" player.

If Daniels isn't traded, the Wolves have indicated his contract will be bought out.  See Hoops Hype.

Exactly what I was thinking. Our expiring contracts will be more valuable mid season. don't waste them on ADaniels.

I would rather have trades now than in February. Team chemistry is important, and for a player to come in mid-season to this team it is not easy to get the systems (see Marbury). Not always you can sign a vet like PJ who had been a defensive machine during his career in the NBA and an excellent team player. You need time to adjust and it would be preferrable to get all the possible changes in the next weeks so the team is more solid for the playoffs

Just because you would rather have trades now than in February doesn't mean it's the right move. Yes ideally we would like to have our complete team all set in training camp and keep it throughout the year without making moves. However the reality is that is not going to happen and I  don't want it to happen. I don't understand why people just want to fill out our roster just for the sake of filling it out. So many people just want to sign some scrub back up pg like tyronne Lue or something just to have a vet pg. What is the point of that though? It's much better to wait out our position as we have some chips that will be much more valuable later on in the season than they are now. I like having flexibility and being able to see what our needs are later on in the season.

I'd like to think no one here wants Lue for the sake of wanting a backup PG, and we can talk to them about knowing basketball and all that 101 stuff if they think otherwise...

Personally, I think the Celtics just want to develop Hudson. Daniels or Bell would be fine, but would it be enough? At least Hudson's already on the team....

Hudson is irrelevant to the discussion.  The only way Danny makes a trade such as Scal and TA for Daniels is if he wants to shrink the bench. But Daniels isn't a marked improvement over what we'd give up.  He can play, and definitely has his good games, but he isn't going to make a difference on this team, and only serves to tie up the same money in one player, as we have with two.

antonio daniels

34 years old
6'4" tall

last season with washington and NO his stats were...
Washington - 13 games
22 minutes
5.1 pts
3.6 assts
1 TO
0.5 steals

NO - 61 games
12 minutes
3.8 pts
2.1 assts
0.8 TO
0.3 steals

his stats did decline last year relative to his career stats, but how much of that is due to age and how much is due to shifting teams in mid-season is hard to tell.

for $6+ million, not sure he would bring that much to the celtics. can this guy be part of the rotation? i dont see him beating out house or "our daniels" at the guard position.

that means he is the celtics 10 man....at best. getting him would not really hurt the team in terms of talent, but how many more games could the celtics win with him on board? any?

i suppose the celtics could cut any of giddens, walker, or hudson to make room for him. but as mentioned above, the celtics might be able to get an even better player at mid-season.

One player making 6.6 mil is going to be more attractive at the trade deadline because of the issue of roster spots.  I can't see TA or Scal being more useful to this team than a back up pg, that is if that back up pg can still play at all.

I am not a Tony Allen hater but I kind of want him gone so that Doc can't just ignore Bill Walker till Christmas.

The nice thing about this is that it would allow Boston to keep Hudson as well as maintain an open roster spot.

Don't know that the Wolves will be willing to take on two for one especially since one of those two is Scal.
