Did David Stern contact you guys and demand that you immediately change the subject from his actions to Stephen Jackson's contract or there would be severe consequences for CelticsBlog?   ;)

LOL

I do agree the fine is strange, but it'd be a boring thread if everyone just got to disagree with Stern.

BTW the previous trade of Jackson for House, Baby, Daniels and Walker kills our depth and isn't even close to being worth it.

If there is going to be a blockbuster trade involving the Celtics and Ray Allen, however, I do believe the Warriors are the team we will be trading with.

Something like this before the deadline cures a lot of ills in Golden State:

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=qoys2u

Boston sends: Ray Allen, Scal, Walker and Giddens

GS sends: Maggette, Jackson and Wright.

This trade saves GS $4.7 million this year and gets them under this year's salary cap. It also allows the Warriors out of $65 million in future contract obligations and gets them down to about $35 million or so in salary next year with a core of Biedrins, Ellis, Randolph, Curry, Morrow, Watson, Akubuike, and Turiaf and a very high first round pick while having enough money under the cap to lure a very good free agent or two after renouncing the rest of their free agents.

Boston meanwhile could extend their window 1 to 2 more years beyond this with this trade. The C's would then have

Rondo - extended
Perk - extended
Pierce - opt out and give him 3 years at $15 million
Garnett
Jackson
Maggette
Wallace
Davis
Wright

as a core for the next 2-3 years beyond this.

Why would Sheed leave all that money on the table. I think you should plan on him taking his player option, the Celtics certainly have to. Perk has two years left on his deal, we'll need to sign him or another center. Big men make a lot of money the Celtics have to plan to pay him or an equivalent player.

Perk is set to expire a year before KG and Rasheed but with Paul (if he picks up his option) I misspoke or mistyped. That said, no way Sheed doesn't pick up that option. That's a no-brainer. I wasn't trying to insinuate otherwise.

Again I don't see Pierce leaving 21 millon on the table, I also don't see the Celtics extending him at 14 million for 4 years. I think you're being overly optimistic on a lot of things.

Actually, I'm being very realistic. Elton Brand is an example of a player who opted out to make a lot less per year with more money guaranteed. It's an option that I assure you Pierce and his agent are exploring. As for the Celtics, it would be extremely finacially beneficial in the short term as they would save $14 million in 2011. (Paul's $7 million dollar annual pay-cut + $7 mill in LT savings = $14 Million)

I don't think the Celtics will keep their payroll around 85 million, not unless they're actually winning a banner each year. Taking on Stephen Jackson will mean Ray or Rondo is gone, to do otherwise would tie this franchises hands for the next 3 years.

The point of bringing Steven Jackson in is to expand that window of opportunity. If the Celtics decided to go that route, they could take on Steven Jackson with little to no increase to their current payroll and avoid losing Ray or Rondo. (although they'd have the option of letting Ray walk as they'd have his replacement).

I'm sorry but I'm just not a fan of Correy Maggette's "me first" game or contract.

Yeah but his role on the above mentioned team would be that as the offensive spark that the reserves run through, a la Vinnie Johnson and the Detroit Pistons. Maggette would be 6th or 7th on the depth chart getting 25 MPG and being on the team to score off the bench. It has always been this team's biggest weakness. they've never had a 6th man type that can light it up.
