I really am high on this kid for some reason. I really can't wait to see him in training camp and Pre-season. I think he is going to tear up Danny boy so there is no need for him to be here. So i really hope Lester gets a fair look and I really think he could be special player for us down the road. All ABOARD the Lester Hudson Ban Wagon!

"for some reason"

It's called wishful thinking.

If anyone else thought that he probably would've been picked a little higher than he was in the draft.  I'm not holding my breath.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Two things I'm confident of after watching Hudson in summer league.

1. He can play defense at the NBA level. He has the physical build to play D at the point position in the NBA and he is "very sticky".

2. The guy can light it up.

I agree with the original poster. The kid reminds me of a young Cassell with defensive ability.

I could be completely wrong but I'd be suprised if, within this year ro next, he isn't contributing on this or some other NBA team.

I see Allen Ray/Gabe Pruitt.

Lets not waste another roster spot on another small SG that doesn't have NBA level ability.

I thought he would, he was the second leading scorer in the NCAA. He also has an NBA ready body type, the kid is a horse of a guard.

The NBA reality will come out for Lester Hudson when he starts playing in training camp against our starters. If he holds his own defensively (nothing fancy-just solid) against Rondo, House and Ray Allen, then he has a real shot at making the roster.

This is how (IMO) Bill Walker made the team last year, but against Pierce.

They didn't pick him for some reason.  I think, just being older and being a primary scorer, he had an easy time putting up points in college.  I doubt he'll be very effective in the NBA.  But he does have the talent to potentially be a good player.

I think some guys play better in collage than they ever do in the pros. Some guys make much better pros. It's a different game Hudson's game seems to be better suited to the pro game and still Tore up the collage Game. He has some tools. But the hardest part of making the jump is the vast amount of work to be put in all the time. I like Pruitt but he seemed like the same guy now as when we drafted him. Come on Lester!

Why do you think he's better suited for the pros?  And what tools?

Personally, I think the opposite.  He seems like he'll do best when he has the ball in his hand a lot.  On our team, that's not gonna happen.

Well, Hudson was listed as having an outside shot of being drafted in the late first-round. His main problem, I think, was that he was listed a 6'3" but is really more like 6'1".  A smart team can get late draft steals by being willing to take undersized players with first-round talent.  Glen Davis would be an example of a guy who was projected as a possible late first-rounder who dropped to the second round probably due in part to concerns about height.  Davis might actually be a good comparison as another guy who had a developed skill set and a body that was ready to play in the NBA from day one.  While he would have put up smaller numbers with better teammates, I think Hudson would have been a first round pick if he had been playing at a major conference school.

Hudson probably has a better chance of succeeding in the NBA than the usually undersized combo guard because he has a large wingspan and a reputation for good man-to-man defense, so he may be able to be adequate defensively when giving up some height.  He's not your stereotypical shoot-first, no-defense shooting guard in a point guard's body that you think of when people say "combo guard".  He might still be outclassed by a 6'7" shooting guard, but he may be able to keep you from cringing when he is guarding a 6'4" player.

When I look at Hudson, I see him as a guy who has the potential to take over the Eddie House role on the team with better defense.  My main concern is whether he is smart enough to learn the system and earn playing time.

I think he's big strong and tough. he rebounds well. He likes contact and can shoot out to the NBA 3 point line. I think his physical play will work even better in the NBA. The way they let you carry the ball in the NBA will make his ball handing better. Better players to play off, I think he would've had more assists with better teammates. He can do a lot of things so he can work off of guys that can also do a lot of different things more easily. We'll have to see but I think he has an NBA game in the little I've seen of him.( A couple of games and lots of clips)

He didn't drop in the draft because of talent.  He dropped in the draft because he's old and he played in a pathetic conference against poor competition.  With that said, he more than held his own against good talent when he played them - he outplayed Derrick Rose against Memphis by all accounts.

I think he has potential - more than is usually associated with a player of his age.  His "NBA body" is just a product of his age - while young players (Durant comes to mind immediately) are still maturing physically when they enter the league, Hudson is already at his peak.  Still, he's athletic, he can rebound, he can pour it in the basket and he's also a good defender according to the management.  The skillset is there - what remains to be seen is whether the skillset is good enough to play out at a much higher level.  Also, his academic history raises some intelligence questions.  It's possible that his issue was just a lack of effort, but it's also possible that he's not the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree.  We all know how we feel about Tony Allen...

I don't know.  Like I said, I think he has potential, and I'd like to see him get the 15th roster spot so we can see what we drafted.  With that said, the odds aren't in his favor.

This has been my point of view on Hudson as well --> he could be Eddie's (cheaper) replacement next year.  If he shows something in camp, keep him.  Hudson is supposed to be a more well-rounded offensive player than Eddie (bigger repertoire than Eddie's catch and shoot limitations) so he's at least worth a look.

Any team banking on a contribution from their 15th man has bigger troubles than worrying about who that 15th man is.  The C's real bench problem is that they could use a more-experienced back up PG but they have 2 roster spots filled by guys they really don't want (TA and Veal).

I figure if Hudson shows something in camp, keep him for D-league and worry about a vet PG (if one looks like a necessity) at the trading deadline and move TA and Veal for that player.  If Walker and/or Giddens shows so good progress this year, they may get to the 12 man roster at that point and show if Daniels is still needed for next year.
