I don't see any money coming off.  At all.
I pray Ray Allen will resign, because I believe he can start for a few more years.  But realistically, he's probably gonna sign for around 10-12 mil.  Then we've got Rondo who will probably get about 8 mil.  That will put us up around 75 mil with a bench of only Rasheed and Davis (not good).  There's always Eddie House who we could probably resign for around 3 mil.  Other than that what?  I hope we can get a really nice MLE like we did this year (no LLE unfortunately).  And then we're back at about 84 million (where we are this year).

Hopefully we can get a half-way decent MLE-type guy for Scal and TA this year, who's interested in playing here for years to come.  That'd put us up toward 90 mil.  But really, what are our other options for a bench besides vet minimums?

As you can see, our books aren't getting any cheaper, and our bench will continue to drop off.  Plus, expect the luxury threshold is gonna drop next year.

As for Paul and KG, they are still healthy guys who could put their face on any franchise.  Don't expect them to sign for any less than their current contracts.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

it's true, it does feel good to think about. The reality of the situation is what brings me around to considering trading Ray before his contract is over. That way, it would basically be like his 18 mil was coming off the books this year and we spent that money on whomever we could trade for, then Ray signing elsewhere. Of course that's hard to do from this point on if our team is playing well, but it's the last chance to do so because after this year, Rondo will be getting a big raise and I don't see many teams looking to get Ray in a sign and trade, just as an expiring deal or a contender, but a contender wouldn't be able to give us anything good in return anyway.

I think the only way we trade Ray this year is if (god forbid) we have a season ending injury to one of the other 'big two' and Danny sees a deal he cant pass up. That likely will mean an early playoff exit and a wasted season from the standpoint of our big three 'timetable' of 3-4 years.

The addition of another marquee level player to replace Ray Allen is a dicy thing IMO and I think Danny would opt for a couple of good players and try to manuever for a high draft pick.

The best we can hope for next year is a resigned Ray and Rondo at a decent salary. Some kind of stability regarding Paul Pierce future with regard to his contract. Then the addition of another high value FA for the mid level to shore up our depth even further.

Since the question was "who do you want from the 10 free agent list" and not who do you think we can get, I will answer just that. Man, who is the best player in the game? Lebron, love him or hate him, he is the best with Kudos to Kobe. The thing is Lebron is still getting better and in my opinion he is the best in the league already and not by just a little.

Thank you for playing along as well as to a few others. Unfortunately we have those on this blog who like to whip out these stupid salary cap and contract rundowns like we are talking about the stock exchange. And as much as I love Ray Allen and kinda like Rondo, I think Dwayne Wade in 2010-11 will have less miles in the gas tank than Ray Allen. As for Rondo, if he doesn't improve his shooting and not be so tentative with the ball, I say let him walk and move on.

well to be fair, that's not the question you asked. you said

Quote
After this season they have so much money coming off the books (Pierce, R.Allen, T.Allen, Rondo, Scalabrine, E.House, M. Daniels.)

Who do you think the Celtics should go after?

which is not the case. Pierce is not coming off the books. it's his option, and no player in his position has declined such an option. The rest of them are coming off the books, but that will do nothing to create cap room. Some people don't realize that, so some of us point it out.

If you ask "ignoring the cap, which 2010 free agent is your favorite," well, that's a different game. and the answer is lebron.

No doubt.  I get so sick of posters that have to drag "reality" and "common sense" into every little thing!

Is it not possible that Paul and KG restructure their contracts.
Would it not be wise for them to look at their prospective pay days after these ones run out, and figure out a restructure plan that averages the same or near the same for years under contract.
This could allow them to go after D Wade, who I feel is the best fit for our team, and the best player in the league right now on both ends of the floor.
Having him play the combo guard with Rondo and Allen would nearly guarante another Ring.
This would also allow us to dominate games and get the elder players the rest that allows them to play longer and with less wear and tear.
In the long run it is better for everyone, and in the short run it is better for everyone.
I can just see the havoc Rondo and Wade would cause the opposing backcourts.

Players aren't allowed to restructure their contracts.  Paul Pierce could opt out of his deal and agree to a vastly reduced salary, but in order for us to give a free agent a max deal to a guy like Wade, Pierce would literally have to agree to something like a $15 million+ pay cut.  Also, that presumes Ray either leaving or agreeing to a minimum salary, and Rondo playing for his qualifying offer.  In short, it's not going to happen.
