Ya not sure, maybe another shoe to drop... Julius Peppers?  Or the put Burgess into his D-end position right away. Either way, it is pretty smart to get that high first round pick in an uncapped year.  But It definitely makes me nervous.

Wow. 

It was pretty apparent that after this season the Pats were going to lose either Seymour or Wilfork (possibly both) due to their contracts expiring and salary cap concerns.

This is getting value in return rather than letting Seymour walk for nothing in return.

Its a shocking move but it actually makes sense.

I'd love Peppers, but I doubt it happens. He's only got one year on his contract as well, and he'll probably be looking for more cash than Seymour.

This def hurts us short term, especially since the Patriots doesn't look as unstoppable as it used to.  However, it does seem to help us in the future.  This is tough.  Seymour has always been the unspoken heart and soul of that Patriots defense and the most consistent player of the team.

Ya it definitely feels like a punch to the gut, but the Raiders first round pick is definitely a good return.

People kept saying we needed to get younger on defense and it looks like we are getting there

I wish we could've got Nnamdi Asomugha lol. There's no way that would happen though, seeing as he's the best corner in the NFL.

This does make sense though, because it is consistant with the patriots wanting to wait and see what happens with the uncapped year and where the cap will be at later on.

To Oakland of all places, poor Seymour. I think they chose a 2011 pick because the rookie scale will likely be much cheaper then, they want to change it but it probably won't happen by next years draft. I'll miss Richard alot, the anchor of the dynasty defenses.

I think this means they chose Wilfork, they were gonna lose one of them. Atleast they got something for him, but i still am not happy about Seymour going.

I had just predicted a big year for him in the Pats prdictions thread lol, that won't happen now that he plays in NFL hell.

Tremendous move by Belichick that could pay off handsomely for a decade. Seymour's game had obviously fallen off and the constant injuries had become a problem. If it came down to having to keep Seymour of Wilfork, I think the team would rather pay Wilfork.

Now, next year, the Pats could have a top 10 pick. Brace has shown a lot of promise and with the lack of depth at LB Belichick could easily turn this into a 4-3 with Warren and Burges on the ends and Brace and Wilfork playing in the gaps rather than on the nose. You then have Thomas, Mayo and Guyton playing the LB's and on passing downs you bring in a dime package and have Thomas rush off the end on Warren's side alongside Warren.

There's some excellent defensive talent coming out next year and if the Pat's can get a top 4 pick, Carlos Dunlop, who I think could be a monster in this league for years, could be there.

It could work out Nick, but its for a 2011 draft pick, not next year. Trading a good player now for a draft pick two years down the line is risky, im ok with the deal but not really happy about it.

I'd love to get Eric Berry. People compare him to Ed Reed and he can hit hard. Plus we need help back there.

He is most likely coming out in next years draft, not 2011. THe only reason i think they chose 2011 instead of 2010 for the pick is because the rookie pay scale will be changed by then so rookies wont be getting 40+ million dollar deals.
