There is a veteran backup PG out there in Steve Blake. I have heard/seen/read several rumors that the Blazers are willing to move him since adding Andre Miller. I think if we are willing to add a future 1st round draft choice to Brian Scalabrine then we own him.
I don't believe those rumours. I felt like they started from people on the outside who felt that the Blazers should be willing to move Blake because of the acquisition of Miller ... rather than anything Portland said or did.
I don't think Blake is available. Heck, Nate McMillan said he's leaning towards starting Blake next season because he doesn't want to break up the successful starting lineup + we all know Pritchard loves Blake.
I don't think Blake is available.
You could be right. I am sure they have had offers for him and others including Webster. That they havent made a move doesnt necessarily make him not available, it just means their price hasnt been met.
A lot will depend on how Andre Miller fits in with Brandon Roy and the young bigs. His performance or lack of it will determine a lot concerning Portlands future PG depth.
A PG of Blake's caliber would be a valuable piece to a lot of teams with playoff aspirations. He is a starter on probably half the teams in the league and a capable fill in starter on most of the rest.
Still, they seem to be willing or planning to add more players with only 13 (?) signed at last count. I think this makes Steve Blake available for the right price providing they meet one of their needs.
Most likely the truth is somewhere in the middle of our opinions. They probably hang on to him for now. Blake will be very valuable at the deadline as a 4 million dollar expiring to get the Blazers a huge needed piece for the playoffs.
