Wow. I just watched the first episode.
Here is the deal. Its a reality show, somewhere between Survivor and Jericho.
The "World had ended..these are a group of survivors.
10 people, with a handy mix of engineers, a handyman, a nurse, a doctor...not really realistic for a mishmash of 10 people, but roll with it.
So they have to get together, pool resources, scavenge what they don't have in their 'colony' (a giant 'abandonded warehouse in Cali that is deceptively stocked full of stuff..and you always wondered where all that cool stuff came from in Fallout)..they also have to ward off increasingly aggresive attacks, and manage each others egos.
There are no "challenges", and from some of the stuff I read, it seems like they have little guidance.
Basically its the fantasy we've all thought of before. Zombies, virus, storm, killer robots, whatever have armageddoned us, and now we gotta make it work.
I don't know why more people aren't watching this show, but I'm watching 3 engineers, two over 55, one under 25, try to make wood gas with a gasifier to power the engine on a rusty pressure washer which they will use to turn an alternator to power a waning battery supply.
Oh yes, its that awesome.
Literally some of them are already going crazy. I could barely stop watching to type this post.
If you go through HULU, you can find a link to discovery channel's last 4 epis. I'd really suggest you try to watch from the pilot. If you PM some of our members, they might help in that.
Seriously just check out the pilot...if you don't scream at your computer screen (at least mentally)about what YOU would've done in that situation within 15 mins, I will personally give you 15 TP's.
EDIT: Mike the handyman (the alpha dog, not counting the former drug trafficking convict current contractor George) just said
"Morgan (23 yr old female aerospace engineer) just said 'I'd rather have toilet paper than power'! What kind of a statement is that??"
Just awesome. IP's mood is currently: Content
Double Edit: And now Vladamir, the craft old dorky engineer stops the other crafty old engineer who is talking about personal combat and says
'John, have you ever been in a fight? (John says yes) John, have you ever been in a life or death fight? (John says no) Well, I have.' Dun dun dunnnnnnnnnnnn
Turns out Vlad is ex-military. I'm gonna say moussad because that's cool to say. in his words "I was in the military, I've seen a lot of people die, I've seen a lot of dead bodies so...that's where I'm coming from."
Discovery Channel, you da bomb.
