I know Clifford Ray is a great coach and mentor to the young bigs... but wouldn't it be great to have McHale teaching these guys some of his post up moves?  That guy was just incredible in the paint.

I would love it, but I don't see it happening.  He might be an interesting option if Thibs leaves though.  I am not sure how he is at running a defense, but he has shown that he is a very good head coach, and might therefore make a good assistant.  He might also be an option if Doc decides to leave to be with his family in a year or two.

The thought of Perk using McHale like moves in the post is almost unimaginable.  I'd love to have him back in the fold, but I don't see it in the near future.

Ask KG what an influence McHale was on his offensive release and on his man to man defense while in Minnesota and you'll see that we've already benefited from McHales coaching tips.   ;)

That would probably be epic, but why fix something that isn't broken? Clifford Ray is a terrific coach and he will help guys like Shelden and Glen to make huge strides in their games. Honestly, what could McHale teach our guys that Cliffors Ray can't?

Clifford Ray is the best big man coach in the league.

McHale would be a downgrade.

I think you're incorrect on both counts.

Clifford is definitely very good at what he does.  Glad to have him on the staff and I wouldn't want to dump him just to get Mchale.  Having said that, I think it's a leap of faith you're making to call him the best in the league.  Do I have a suggestion for who's better?  No, but I don't follow the league's "big man" coaches, hence my questioning his being rated the best.

Would Mchale be a downgrade?  Not sure how.  Comparing the two in their careers, Mchale was superior.  He had no peers in the post for offensive moves and he was a top-notch defender.  Hard to understand how you would rate him a downgrade without some solid basis for that reasoning.  If you have some good rationale for your opinion, please share.

i'm pretty sure ray is regarded around the league as the best at what he does. i know i read somewhere that at one point everywhere he goes, teams' boards, shooting percentage go up. no way i would want to lose ray for mchale but it would be awesome to have mchale on staff in some capacity. hey, ave him assist clifford ray. if he wanted in with the celts i'd be psyched.

I still think we will see Bird, McHale and Ainge together running the Celts.  McHale is the next piece and I believe he will be followed by Bird.

Or even KG upping his post moves with McHale would be amazing. imagine the dream shake and the up and under lol

Clifford Ray leaves an imprint on every big man he's developed ... from PJ Brown to Dwight Howard to Kendrick Perkins ... just watch their footwork, especially defensively, and you'll see the effect of his coaching.

He's the only big man coach in the league that I've ever seen that from.

He may not be the best in the league but McHale would be a downgrade.

Playing talent and coaching ability are as potentially unrelated as two qualities can be. I think you're making a huge leap equating Kevin's skill on the floor with his coaching ability. Kevin's coaching resume, and his personnel evaluation, would be a major concern for me.

McHale's coaching resume is short, but I have been very impressed by it.  I think last year in particular, the wolves showed dramatic improvement under McHale as coach.  He is a terrible GM, but I think he is a very good NBA coach.

You do this and, five years from now, Danny Ainge has another heart attack and decides to retire, and Celtics management decides that McHale deserves another shot at a front office job because he must have learned something since Minnesota.

That would be the best ever,   Get back here Kevin & Larry and bring Chief with you.  We will dominate the league as always.
