Would anyone admit if they started watching the Celtics once they traded for KG?

I do.

I live in switzerland have no connection to the city of boston (other than having been there for a few days eleven years ago...) and i'm only twenty years old. So no real reason to me to be a celtics fan...

I started playing ball during the jordan era and obviously i loved those bulls teams back then...
Haven't really favoured any team after that and didn't actually play much ball or pay much attention to the nba for some time, though i was always rooting for KG.
So naturally when he became a celtic i started watching that team and i can't remember having ever been as impressed with any team as i was with the celtics of the past two seasons.
(Also started to play ball on a daily basis again... Think i have even more fun playing than i had as a five year old...)

Before that i always respected the celts for being the most sucessfull and storied franchise in the league and pierce was one of my favourite players (as was ray allen, so perfect match...)
I also educated myself on the subject of the great tradition and history of the celtics and usually drove guys on the playground crazy with bringing up russel, bird, mchale, hondo, havlicek, etc. in discussions about greatest ever in some category  (all players they had never even heard about...)
But no, i wasn't a "fan" before the KG trade.

Not ashamed about that. But then again, if you call me a bandwagoner i honestly couldn't care less as it wont affect my admiration for the celtics nor anything else i do in my life...

(TP to Drucci as well!)

No one's a bandwagoner until they jump of the wagon when things turn bad.  At least that's my feeling.  Either way, the more the merrier.  As long as we're rooting for the Celts!

Quoted for Truth.  I never understood the hate for someone thats on the same side as you, no matter how they got there.

I'm jumping on the bandwagon of this thinking. I love Celtic fans. I don't care if they are C's fans for an hour, a day, a week, a month, a year or an eternity. The more the merrier. Green Rules!!!

So if you've only been a Celtic fan for a little bit, who cares!!! Let's hear about why!!! And if you are a professed jumper once a team starts going bad I don't care because when times are good, the more the merrier!!!

I've always been a general basketball fan, but didn't really have a team.  When I was young I watched Alonzo Mourning on Georgetown and followed him and liked the Hornets, and then the Heat.

Then in Feb 2007 I was accepted to go to Northeastern for Grad school (moving there from CT) so I was excited to live in a place where I could root for the home team.  So I was excited to be able to go to games, and was optimistically hoping the C's got the 1st or 2nd pick to see some nice young players, but other events transpired and I couldn't be happier.  So I've really only been a Celtics follower since Feb 2007.

TP for the Huskie. My son's entering his 5th year. I like you even more now Kwhit and I liked you a lot already. You're a Huskie who recently made the intelligent decision to become a Celtic fan and you're a hell of a CBNBA GM. Doesn't get any better than that!!

Mine is a two-part story.

First, I grew up with parents who were Celtics fans.  We would watch the away games on black-and-white TV (with the sound turned down and Johnny Most on the radio).  Home games were not televised locally, so it was Johnny all the way.  The home team ruled, and the opponents were out-and-out villains.  We would often celebrate a win with a  pizza.  On several very lucky occasions, we saw a game at the Garden.

I continued following the team through college, and then went into the Army in the late 70’s.  When I was sent overseas, I followed the team the best I could through Stars and Stripes, the Armed Forces Network and letters from home.

Back in the US and stationed in North Carolina, I spent many a cold night sitting in my car trying to pick up the action on WBZ.

Then, in the mid-eighties, I drifted away.  Life got busy with a new career, a young family, and too much to do.  I was aware of what was going on, but I didn’t really follow it.

Then part two.

In 2001, the Fat Kid turned 10, and was becoming interested in all things sports.  He started asking about the Celtics, and asked if we could go to a game some time.  I got some tickets, and the whole family went.  He was swept up in it, and couldn’t get enough.  I liked it, too.

As time went on, we watched more C’s games on TV, and went to a game whenever we could.  We were in the house for the Greatest Comeback in NBA Playoff History. The Fat Kid learned more and more about the game in general, and Celtics legend, lore and legacy in particular.  He is a die-hard, and I am proud to say that so am I.

Then opportunity presented itself.  I had a buddy who had a 1/3 share in season tickets.  One of the partners traveled a lot and couldn’t go to many of his games.  We got first dibs on the tix, and saw a handful of games that year.  The next year, when the partner dropped out, we jumped in.  Then we went to a two-way split, then a half season, then a full season, where we remain.

As anyone who has kids knows, you become interested in what your kids are interested in.  In this case, it was easy.  It was like a re-connecting to the past.  It is also been a great way for me to share something special with my son.  There is the shared interest in the team itself, along with the ups and downs, hope and fear, speculation, arguments about what should be done, the shared disdain for the dancers ;D. But more importantly, there are  the countless trips to the Garden, where he has been held captive in the car.  It is hours of sharing rituals, talking about anything and everything, learning city skills and street smarts and watching our relationship grow.

So in a nutshell, I sort of fell into the Celtics by default, but I’ve stayed with them because it is so much more than basketball.

I do. I'm living in France I've discovered the NBA during the 2006-2007 season, and got amazed by the Suns, and rooted for them. I discovered the Celtics and "The Big Three" in the summer of 2007, was curious about the team, watched it and then fell in love. I know I'm a "bandwagon" fan but since I didn't follow the NBA one year before I think it came logically in the process of discovering other teams and the one I would really root for.

Anyway these last two years of Celtics basketball have been great and I really think I will follow the team even after its current glory days ; love of the franchise, transmitted successfully by CB! :)
It's official. Drucci is my favorite bandwagon fan of all time. He chose the Celtics' wagon to jump on, he has the gonads to admit, and he sure as heck is a guy that will probably now be a lifer. TP4U Drucci and welcome to the Big Green Wagon!!!

Ha ha, thanks Nick! ;D

4THQTR admits it too, so I don't think we are really the only ones to acknowledge our "status".

And I agree with Redz, it's when the ship starts to sink that you see who is a bandwagoner (or a fair weather fan - I prefer this expression).

I have been following since the Nets Celtics ECF.  I really got into it when my brother had come home from college and he was into it, and me wanting to be cool like my older brother started watching too.  It was funny though because my family wasnt big basketball people before that, and then as soon as we started watching it my parents starting talking about the old celtics teams that they used to watch so it tied all together.

I have watched faithfully since including the parade of pointguards like, Kenny Anderson, Gary Payton, Orien Green, Delonte, Chucky Atkins.  I probably missed some.

Everyone is a bandwagon fan, because you have to get on sometime!

I honestly didn't get all that into basketball as a true fan till I went away to college. Once I was stuck in Pittsburgh away from my family it became something I could always call my Dad and Brother about and talk for a couple of hours. I watched the games all the time, but I wasn't nearly as into it as I am now.

The first, and only Celtics game until this year on St. Patrick's day, game I went to in Boston was in 94 or 95. I watched the Chief guard Shaq, and hold him to 40+.

I was young and couldn't understand how the Celtics were winning the game. My dad tried to explain, Parish was playing him straight up so the rest of Shaq's team couldn't play off him.

My first game was at age 8 vs the Toronto Huskies....as my son Redz said, have been a fanatic since

Remember as a newly wed walking up to the ticket office with my wife and getting tickets for that night's final series game vs the Lakers....Baylor got 62 or 63 but our C's prevailed

Was able to secure playoff tix in the 70s through a friend's voucher (season ticket holders were able to purchase extra tix for playoffs....tells you how few season tix holders there were)....so was there for Kareem's winning skyhook in 74 and the triple OT game in 76

Before Bird's rookie year was fortunate to buy season tix in the second row behind the basket at the C's end....Bird stole Isiah's pass right in front of me...kept those tix for 20 years

Fortunately, my wife and I were on the Washington coast watching the final game of 2008, so with Pacific coast time, were able to watch the whole celebration and still be in bed by 11

Great ride!!!!

Hardly, thats a good point, the fact that you were able to stay up and watch everything and be in bed by 11 because you were on  the west coast.  How many people do you think are missing out on the chance to get sucked into the celts and create memories just because of when the games are on.  I know a couple people that missed the comeback game against the lakers in the finals just because they had to wake up for work the next day and went to bed at halftime.

Dad + MA + Larry = lifer

One of my earliest basketball memories was when my Dad let me stay up to watch the '79 NCAA Championship game.

As we know, the Cs already had drafted LB. So the game was even bigger for Cs fans.
