Tell me... If AI is such a legend and such a team player why does he have 0 rings?
yea, there's alot of things i would go at AI for, invalidating his entire body of career work as irrelevant because of not having a shot to win a championship is not one of them. You could make the argument he took the least talented team of all time to the NBA finals kicking and screaming on his back.
It's easy to through these stones now, but not so long ago, the captain was the subject of this awesomely flawed argument, as well as the immature punk argument you throw at AI (bandage gate anyone?).
The rationale that all great players need a championship to validate there career is laughable, and a foolish argument in general. You think John stockton is a crappy player? How about Karl malone? Barkley? The list is endless.
Question his ability to submit his ego to the team concept?
absolutly, im with you there, It's clearly the major flaw that IMO will always keep him out of "one of the greatest Gaurd" discussion as it should. But i challenge you to find a player of his stature who was as overpoweringly dominant with the talent he had around him 99 to 03 or 04.
To question his heart and the fact that he left everything on the floor every night up until last year, a year in which he clearly ran head first in a wall of his own making he couldn't hurrdle, since he couldn't accept he's not AI anymore?
It ignores the entirety of his career due to your blatant bias against him and his precived "thug" attitude.
I would say an objective opinion of AI is of a great individual player who's flawed team mentality led to his inability to adapt to the loss of his ability to impose his will on a team, both the opponent and his own, that he had in his prime.
The tragic thing it's his pride, which made him one of the toughest little men ever to play the game makes it impossible for him to accept that father time ran him down about three years ago and evolve his game to suit his reduced, but still useful, skill set.
When i look back on allen, I'll remember this version from his prime (#8 is one of the best laker disses of all time):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OH5JTh3Xp3Y&feature=relatedand not the more recent bitter player who can't accept that father time runs us all down eventually.
He entertained the hell out of me when he was in his prime, and for that, im grateful.
