1:39pm: Heyman says the Red Sox acquired Wagner. Lennon says the Mets obtain two players to be named later.

WE got him! NICE
Will he really help all that much? I'm not so sure.

Yeah...  after reading some of his and his agent's comments, I don't really want him any more.  He can only pitch every 3 - 4 days?  He doesn't think he'll be as effective as a setup man?  No thank you.
3-4 days between outings? That's pretty weak...

Meh, give it a chance.  Do you think the sox would have gotten him if they didnt think he could help?

I guess otherwise they must just want to put him through arbitration for draft picks

Yep.  Well, 3 days, anyway.

Quote
Wagner's agent told 1050 ESPN New York's Andrew Marchand that the Mets reliever is only supposed to pitch once every three days at this point in his rehab.

"This is a factor, you can't overcome," agent Bean Stringellow said.

In other news, Wagner's agent is named "Bean Stringfellow".

The red sox are paying 2 million for him for the next 5 weeks.  There has to be another shoe to drop, Im not buying that they pay 2 million for an inning every third game for the next 5 weeks.  Theo isnt that dumb, at least I hope

The 3-4 days might be shorter in a month.

He has looked good throwing for us (the Mets), but he only had 2 appearances.

If games in the playoffs are alternating days, 3 days is not a big deal.

Any way you slice it though, not alot of lefties out there that throw 95-96 and have a plus slide-piece.

As I said before, good pick up for the stretch run and playoffs and with rosters expanding in another week they'll be plenty of relief pitchers around to be able to keep him on his every 3 days schedule until he can pitch more often.

If he doesn't like setting up for Papelbon for 2 months for a ring he's got problems.

He's been pretty clear that he's not in love with that plan, so I'll go with "he's got problems".  ;)

I don't like Wagner's attitude at all. Hopefully he just pitches well and keeps his mouth shut.

If he can't keep his mouth shut, I'm predicting a fist fight with Papelbon in the bullpen.

Whoah Whoah.  Granted I accused him of lacking stones earlier but I dont think there is anything wrong with his attitude.  Most Old closers that go to setting up dont make the leap back to closing.  And he earned the no trade clause by being one of the premiere closers in the game for a long time.  I have no problem with his trying to protect his career both from a health point and a transition point not wanting to go from a different league to a different role after just coming back from surgery

Current comments aside, I think Wagner has always been a guy that teammates didn't really embrace.  He's been criticized by Astros fans, Phillies fans, and Mets fans for having a bad attitude.

Also, I worry about his fit here.  Here's what he said about Phillies fans:

Quote
When asked if he'd waive his no-trade clause to come to Philadelphia again, per Scott Lauber:

“No,” Wagner said. “That [crap] was hard enough for two years. I can’t imagine a month, coming off Tommy John. At 38, Tommy John, no. They expect way too much.

Welcome to Boston, Billy.

FYI, he's been throwing 93-94 so far this season.

Wish he never had the surgery. Could hit 99 along with having an ill slider. Wonder if he can come close to that? Tommy John's a tough procedure.

In 2007 they got Eric Gagne thinking he would help.
