NBA front-office sources told ESPN.com on Monday that the Raptors have agreed in principal on a sign-and-trade deal that will send swingman Carlos Delfino and guard Roko Ukic to the Milwaukee Bucks for power forward Amir Johnson and guard Sonny Weems.

Link.

I think Toronto would have been better off keeping Delfino than trading for Bellinelli; Delfino is a better player, especially on the defensive end.

It will be interesting to see if Amir ever amounts to anything.

If memory serves correct wasn't Danny enamored with Johnson when he was coming into the draft....?

Yeah, he wanted to select him in the second round, but had a promise to Orien Greene.  Danny tried desperately to get Greene's agent to release him from the promise, but he declined.

I agree Roy. I like Delfino a lot more than Belinelli. I think Delfino's offense is actually better, too. Colangelo was lauded at the beginning of his tenure, but it looks like they're bound for perpetual mediocrity until something major goes down.

Well, Belinelli was needed after trading Kapono for Evans, no? That move was an upgrade for a team that needs toughness and rebounding.

Rather than letting Delfino walk for nothing, they get to take a flier on Johnson.

I'm not sure what you mean, Lucky.

Wouldn't signing Delfino also have filled the hole left by Kapono?  He's a pretty good shooter, and a much tougher player / better defender than Bellinelli.  In the Toronto press, it was reported that Colangelo chose MB over Delfino.

Whats Toronto benefits doing this trade? Carlos is a proven NBA player, and Roko did some good things last season.

Amir is one of those guys that would've benefited going to college. He is still raw & undeveloped. And I don't know who sonny weems is?

Milwaukee wins this one, if its true.

I thought Delfino and Calderon were an excellent pairing on the floor. I would have traded Belinelli and Ukic before I ever would have traded Delfino and Ukic. Especially for a guy like Johnson who has barely flashed anything any good.

I think Belinelli is going to be a far superior player to Delfino when it is all said and done.  But I don't see why they couldn't keep both of them.  Delfino would have supplied some very nice depth and toughness to a very questionable wing rotation (basically just Turkeyglue, Belinelli, and Derozen).  This deal is not very good for Toronto.

Belinelli is a better shooter than Delfino, and that's the skill set required to fill Kapono's shoes. He also has higher upside (as a scorer) and comes cheaper than Delfino.

The Bargnani extension aside, I think Colangelo has had a pretty solid offseason. He traded Marion, Kris Humphries, Nathan Jawai, Kapono, Delfino, and Roko Ukic for Turkoglu, Antoine Wright, Belinelli, Reggie Evans, Amir Johnson, and Sonny Weems, and still had enough money in exceptions to bring in Jarret Jack and Rasho Nesterovic.

Stange move by the Raptors, I thought they were already stacked on their frontcourt with Bosh/Bargnani/Reggie Evans/Nesterovic.

I think I would have taken Delfino over Amir but why not...

The Raptors made a lot of moves this summer but I just don't see them as a dangerous team next year. Maybe I'm wrong but it seems to me that Hedo won't fit with this squad.

I'm curious how much his contract was. I know it was 2 years, but dollar amount isn't posted. I started a thread(zero posts :()
for us to go after Delfino. He's a great defender and shooter. We missed out on a freebie trade. I'm sure Tony Allen,Giddens or Walker + a 2nd rounder would've worked out.
Can't stop, Rondo!

you still get the feeling johnson could get good tho, no? not much of a post game but can dunk from anywhere inside the free throw line and has shown flashes of being an excellent weak side shotblocker.

i'm not much of a belinelli fan but they did essentially get him for free (basketball wise).
