For my Great Uncle, Lem ... one of the dearest people who ever touched my life, and a World War I hero.
My maternal grandfather died when I was young, so he took over that role in my life (for his brother).
To say he was a sweet and wondetrful human being is such an understatement, and only those lucky enough to have known him know just how much of one.
I was doing an internship in St. Croix when he died and could not attend his funeral, and I felt so badly about it, but not long after I received the U.S. flag from his coffin, (via his wishes), and it has been with me on my bedroom wall, (above my head), ever since ... watching over me.
This was his favorite song, (which he
forced me to play and sing for him every chance he could), and which, in my humble opinion, has rarely been done as close to perfectly as this version, (by the late Eva Cassidy), and the original, by Judy Garland, of course.
I love you and miss you, Lem ... you're never far away.

Hope y'all had a great Memorial Day!
