Sounds mostly like a Suns move to save some money. It's a pity that Shinn remains an owner. I liked the Okafor/Chandler trade for the Hornets, but this move hurts depth. At least they didn't sell their first rounder this year for cash. Did they have a first rounder though?

Yeah, it's just a salary dump.  The Clippers had the cap room / trade exceptions to make a deal, and we didn't.

Rasual Butler's pretty [dang] good, he's hit some big shots for them.  Anyone know what his contract looks like/ why we wouldnt make a move, he also seems quite versatile, something we could use.

Just had my own question answered, 3.6 mil, we coulda likely dumped off Scal for him.

No we couldn't have, because that wouldn't have given the Hornets any cap relief.  If guess we could have done a 3-way where we traded Scal for Butler, and Scal was moved to the Clippers, but I don't see the incentive for LA.

I am sure we would love to make a move, the problem is, I don't see why the Clips would trade him.  He is a very nice veteran player, who will help them.  The Clippers have actually put together a halfway decent team...mostly thanks to a little luck, and Chris Wallace.

According to hoopshype he makes $4 million ($8 million savings for Hornets when factoring in LT) and is expiring this season. Therefore Butler will play (probably start) this year in LA and the Celtics have a 0% shot at him.

It was a nice thought, seeing a solid veteran wing defender being basically given away to a.. young.. maybe not so awful anymore but definetly young.

There are only a handful of teams in the position to take on $4 million. It's all about matching another team needs. So in that sense, he wasn't given away.

The Hornets are ecstatic right now.

The really interesting thing about this move is that if it happened a couple weeks ago, the Hornets may have made a run at Big Baby.

maybe. does this move put them under the cap now? I thought their payroll was $77mil? not sure at all on what exceptions they still might have to use.

but I would tend to think it was a pure salary dump whether it was done a few weeks ago, or today.
