Outside of Boston, I'll say fans overrate the Lakers, both as a team and individually.

Kobe Bryant is a great player, but he's not MJ.  Pau Gasol -- a player who was underrated for years -- is now seen as a complete player on both ends, which is fairly silly; he's still a weak defender.  Lamar Odom averages fewer than a dozen points per game, and is often unmotivated.  Andrew Bynum is hyped beyond belief.  Trevor Ariza (now gone) is a good hustle guy, a solid energy player who can hit the three, but he's basically a younger James Posey, not an all-star in the making.

Chris Anderson.  Thats all I have to say

even if chauncey and Nene are still underrated

Chauncey gets his due, but I'm actually baffled at how underrated Nene is here. He was huge for Denver last season and a big reason they went as far as they did.

I'm not sure if it's so much that Nene is underrated, as it is that people are skeptical about his health.  Since he's been in the league, he's had seasons where he has missed 27, 81, 18, and 66 games.  That's out of seven seasons.  Since his second season, he hasn't been able to string together two years in a row where he's played more than 55 games.

When he's healthy, he's pretty good.

yup sometimes they remember the injuries season just too much
but yes i remembered picking him in 10th round of so in every single of my fantasy teams last year because nobody wants him, after being a top 25 pick a year before

result

he ultrarock and rolls
and I am not talking just about fantasy
he played like a true PF in a fast system with very good running and
very much hustle.
Anderson owes a lot of his great year on how people were matching with NENE

Is it possible to overrate the defending champs?  I agree w/ Roy that Kobe is overrated.  Every now and then I will start slipping into the "Kobe really is comparable to MJ" mode.  But then I will watch an old game of MJs and that puts that internal debate to bed for about a season.

I also agree that the trailblazers are overrated.  They have all the talent in the world, but I don't see them ever being able to put it all together.  Especially if they keep handing out contracts like Roy's (not that it wasn't deserved).

I tend to not like players that are really good and make their team not go anywhere.  Examples:  Dirk, Nash, Iverson, etc.   I'll be interested to see who else will fall in this camp from the "new" players of the league.

How about the Bobcats?

A lot of love for Wallace.  Except he is one concussion from being done.  And I really believe he is a slightly better TA with playtime.

It's not like the guy tore his MCl and ACL. He had a cancer scare in 2008 and has clearly made a full recovery. Do you have health concerns about John Lester? It's ridiculous. Simple, He's a top center in the league right now and does not get that credit.

15 and 8 with 1.3 bpg in 33 minutes while shooting 60% from the field. The guy is money.

As wdleehi said, the guy has had major injury problems in 4 out of 7 seasons, not just one.  Since 2005, he's played in 55, 1, 64, 16, and 77 games.

So, to answer your question, if John Lester had a five year track record of missing between 25% to 95% of his starts every season, yes, I'd be concerned.

My point is, his cancer issues aside he's made a full recovery from his lingering knee injury that occurred 2005. An ACL can take a few years before a player is truly 100%. Nene (as evidence of his career year), seems to be ok.

Haha.  I'm just pointing out the reason a lot of people aren't particularly high on Nene after one good season.  He just doesn't have the track record.

Incorrect. His most recent time on the IR had nothing to do with injury at all.

Well, I agree about Golden State. When we had people here very upset about Marco Belinelli being had on the cheap, that's a pretty good sign. It's funny because I have even seen people clamoring for Cartier Martin, who was one of their summer league pickups.

I do like Randolph, Biedrins, and Ellis, though.
