Just curious what everyone would think about this...

Last season, the Celts were 22-7 without KG.  Big Baby flourished in the starting lineup, making this the most servicable place for him to play.  Does anyone think that the Celts could possibly be more dangerous with a starting 5 of Rondo, Allen, Baby, Perk and Pierce?  Then our next 5 off the bench would be House, Daniels, KG, Wallace and anyone left.

Think about what that second unit could do to other teams.  Think about the intensity that would bring off the bench - the scoring options, the improved defense and the ability to either blow games open or to mount large comebacks.  Also, imagine that without KG in the starting lineup, we were minutes away from the ECF.

Also, remember before you respond, that the Celts were the first team to develop a 6th man spot and that whomever starts does not necessarily finish.

I would love to hear your thoughts...

No.
First time I ever gave out a TP for the very simple answer of "No", but it really does say it all.

No way KG would come off the bench to play behing Big Baby, and the "No" sums up pretty well my thoughts on this scenario.

  • Let them hate, as long as they fear
By the time Shak finishes detroying BBD in the fisrt Q; our second unit would bve too far behind to catch up. Ditto with Howard and their much improved team. I second that "NO" answer.

Plus, we're only ever going to see "units" in the regular season anyway.  Otherwise, it'll just be the starters and a rotation of 3 or 4 subs.

Forget that.  They have even a better record when Scali starts!

People are quickly saying no, but have no reasoning behind it.  SA plays one of their best 3 players off the bench, so the idea should not just be thrown away without reasoning why it's not a good idea.

I think no and here is why.  I don't think it was the starting job that gave BBD his opportunity to shine.  It wasn't like he was a monster in the first 6 minutes of games last year.  It was the abundance of consistent minutes that allowed him to do so.  Regardless of BBD starting or coming off the bench, he's still going to play the same number of minutes per game, so I don't think it will have any effect on his game.  Any extra minutes given to Glenn would come at KG's expense, which I don't want.

Would this mean we get a 5 minute break for KG to do his pregame routine when he comes off the bench?

We should start:

Wallace
Baby
Daniels
House
Hudson

keep our real starters fresh for the playoffs...

I actually don't think much explanation is necessary. I'll give one anyway.

No because Kevin Garnett is our best player. Many teams place a top 5 or even top 3 player on their team as a sixth man. However, you do not bring your best player off the bench, at least if you're a championship contender. There is no reason to take the risk of leaving your best player on the sidelines to start the game.

And honestly, if we were going to do that, Wallace would have little utility to our team. He is the guy we brought in to be the difficult big man matchup coming off the bench. Don't need to add Garnett to that.
Go Celtics.
