Hi guys,

Just figured I'd start a thread for the PASPN Mock GM CelticsBlog leagues that are now running. For those who are curious, check out the frontpage post here:

http://www.celticsblog.com/2009/8/3/972977/you-are-the-gm

Essentially, it's a Fantasy League using a close approximation of actual NBA rules. You take over an existing real-life team and try to build the best team you can through trades and Free Agent signings - complete with salary caps, mid-level exceptions, and other collective bargaining rules. Or join as an Agent and work the GMs for the best possible deals for your clients.

Anyway, just thought I'd start a thread in case anyone wanted to discuss :)

How does that one work?  Did somebody sign Marion to a $15 million per year contract?

Mock GM of the Cavs here...

I love the whole concept behind what PASPN is doing over there, but the communication system(s) are terrible.

I think we should use this board & CelticsBlog to communicate.

Hey hey. It's a cool setup, has great potential, needs a bunch of improvement, but is certainly very fun if everyone who signed up stays involved (i've got a couple trades out there that have receieved no response for several days). We'll see, but it's got great potential.

yeah, they've got some kinks to work out, namely that at this point we are still trading based on '08-'09 salaries, so Marion is still a 19 million dollar expiring contract.

So, in that spirit, some changes they should make soon if they start to get bigger and gain momentum:

-Shouldn't be able to trade free agents based on last season's salaries

-Should be able to keep track of and trade future draft picks

-Should tighten up and expand their drafting software (it's quite confusing and it seems like you can only put 5 players on your "big board" which was unfortunate for me because i was going to be gone on draft day and had pick #7 and didn't trust that one of my top 5 would be there and didn't trust the software/the draft method, so I packaged #7 and Kelenna Azabuike and traded that for Kevin Love, just so I wouldn't have the draft headache...not very "true GM"-like, I know)

Piggybacking off my last post, My request is that the GMs communicate.

I've offered some trades to GM's using players on their trading block that have been declined.  Not a big deal, the first offer of course is going to trend towards me getting an advantage.  But when they decline, they give no specifics or feedback.

Same with the numerous offers I've received.  They've trended towards the initiator getting the better deal (as is expected) and I decline or counter-offer, always providing feedback trying to get a dialogue going with the GM.  Unfortunately, no one responds.

There's only been 1 GM that I've been able to go back-and-forth with.

It's frustrating.

I'm in 2 leagues, the celticsblog one and another random one. in the 2nd one, i was lucky enough to grab the Celtics. My first move was to deal KG and TA to Philly for Brand, Louis Williams, and Thadeous Young. Thoughts?

I'd have to say you did pretty good with that trade.  Especially if your league is going to extend into next year and beyond.

so i doubt anyone really checked throughout the season, but, uh...i won the league. So i'm exercising my bragging rights. That's right, Golden State has undergone a miraculous turnaround, and defeated (gulp) Boston for the title.

Team MVP: Boozer
MIP: Kevin Love.

That is all.
