his jumper has gone flat.

I don't know how it looked, but he shot the 3rd best 3pt percentage of his career last season at 43%.

That would be the stupidest thing ever. Like ever. Let's take a guy who's ten years older and only fills a small role over a guy who can backup the 2 and 3, in addition to handling the ball on offense! Yeah!  ::)
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

If this rumor is true, it may have nothing to do with Daniels.  Instead, Bowen's decision to sign here may determine what Danny offers in a potential trade to land Daniels.  With Pierce and Allen getting big minutes and Daniels and Bowen on board, he'd have the ability to trade 2 of the 3 young wings (Allen, Giddens, and Walker).  Without Bowen on board, he may be balking a bit at trading more than one.

Hoopsworld is quite possibly the most unreliable basketball website on the internet (at least since Celtic Thug's site was closed.)

Have to disagree Roy...Celtic Thug was MORE reliable than Hoopsworld....and more fun.

I emailed the author for clarification.  We'll see if he emails back.

"HoopsWorld" does have a negative connotation based on poor authors dragging the site down, but I'd judge the content per author as well.  Jessica Camerato got her start on HW and is now writing for WEEI.  I don't know if they pay their authors or if it is just a way to get exposure for some, but I have a soft spot for bloggers/writers getting a start in the business.

that said, misquoting or misrepresenting the facts is a bad way to go

I assume the author either understands the facts incorrectly or is wording it poorly.

Yeah, it's too bad that the whole site has gotten a bad name, but there have just been so many instances where they have completely misrepresented, and in some case, completely misread other articles, and ended up completely changing the story that they were reporting based on someone else's article.

Its one thing if they are speculating (as long as they are clear), but there have been way too many mistakes that I can only attribute to downright laziness at best, and lack of reading comprehension at worst.

-edit: by the way, this is not just something that happens to Bloggers.  Frank Dell-Apa did the same thing a couple weeks ago, when he completely twisted around Marc Spears' article (I believe it was about a Daniels sign and trade).  The problem is, on Hoopsworld, it has become much more common than a simple "mistake".

his email back to me stands by his comments in the article but his wording was still somewhat confusing to me - but the bottom line is that he couldn't get confirmation that the team was considering not signing Daniels

I'm sure that part of the problem is that rumors in general are a big game of telephone anyway, with any number of sources misrepresenting what they heard (or in some cases, deliberately holding back information because of some agenda)

So in other words, don't sweat this rumor.  ;)

Thanks for following up for us Jeff!

According to published reports, a return to the Spurs appears "unlikely", while the Celtics are said to be holding off on signing free agent Marquis Daniels of the Indiana Pacers until management can decide if adding Bowen to their roster is more feasible.

ESPN published something about how a return to the Spurs was unlikely, but where are the "published reports" that the Celtics are holding off on signing Daniels until they figure out the Bowen situation?

First, I don't see why we'd hold off on Daniels for the chance to get Bruce Bowen, who couldn't get big minutes on the injury-depleted Spurs roster this year. I think Daniels is a higher priority. Second, if Daniels has agreed to join Boston for the LLE, and we reneged on that, we'd send really bad messages to free agents around the league by screwing over Daniels, something I don't think Danny would do to bring on Bruce Bowen. Third, are teams clamoring to use their LLEs on Bowen? I feel like he's a veteran's minimum guy anyway so I don't see why it's either/or.

I'd be okay with Daniels, Bowen, and Walker all being available to spell minutes at the 3. I just think we still need to trim some fat. Doesn't look like anybody will take on TA, which is a shame. A bench of Sheed, Davis, Daniels, House, Bowen, Scalabrine, Walker, Giddens, maybe a backup point guard (Jason Williams, Jacque Vaughn, Anthony Carter) and another young guy (Hudson, Swift, Powe) would be just fine by me.
Go Celtics.

Daniels > Bowen

I'm not buying that the celtics could think otherwise.

Right.  The Celtics may try to juggle things to sign both, but I can't see them picking Bowen over Daniels.

Also, of course, Danny has confirmed that Daniels is on his way, so I don't think it's anything to worry about.

The Celtics would not bail out on the Daniels commitment to sign Bowen. That's not how they do business. They may however decide on not signing a backup point thinking that Daniels and House could hold it down and then sign Bowen..

So they may be waiting to decide how necessary it is to trade for Daniels vs. outright signing him..

Did Danny Ainge have a bad accident that left brain damage that we don't know about?

That's the only chance.   Maybe they are debating sweetening the package to get Indy to take Tony Allen if Bowen is amenable to the LLE.

Bowen might be picked over daniels?
