This is how the top frontcourts in the East stand RIGHT NOW:

(Player- 08/09 stats)

Cleveland

Shaquille O'Neal   30mpg, 17pts, 8reb, 1.4 blk
Anderson Verajao   28mpg, 9pts, 7reb, .80 blk
Zyldrunus Ilgauskas 27mpg, 13pts, 8reb, 1.3 blk
JJ Hickson         11mpg, 4pts, 3reb, .50 blk

---------------------------------------------------------------
Orlando

Dwight Howard  35mpg, 20pts, 14reb, 3blk   (defensive POTY)
Marcin Gortat  12mpg, 4pts, 4reb, .80blk
Brandon Bass   20mpg, 8pts, 4reb, .70blk
Ryan Anderson  20mpg, 7pts, 5reb, .30blk

---------------------------------------------------------------
Boston

Kevin Garnett        31mpg, 16pts, 8reb, 1.2blk (all-defense)
Kendrick Perkins     30mpg, 8pts, 8reb, 2blk
Rasheed Wallace      32mpg, 12pts,7reb, 1.3blk
Brian Scalabrine     12mpg, 3pts, 1reb, .30blk

---------------------------------------------------------------

As of right now i'd say that our frontcourt matches up with any of these teams'. .

The main matchup is the 4th Big man and if we could get an upgrade over Scal we would be the best in the East, IMO.

FA's currently available (and in our price range) are as followed:

Glen Davis (we could match any offer)
Leon Powe (could match offers/out of order until the second half)

Ben Wallace (might sign for league minimum since he received 10mil in his PHX buyout, LOVE to reunite the Wallace Bros.)

Brian Skinner (IMO the best out of the "old & washed up" group)

Melvin Ely (should be cheap)

Lorenzen Wright (could come for cheap)

Fransico Oberto (Last rumored to land in Washington BUT the Celtics have showed some interest)
_____________________________________________________________

Out of these players i'd say BBD has the best upside, and Value per dollar becuase of his age and playoff performance.

But if the price is too high i'd go for Skinner or Wallace.

BUT if Danny can pull or the S&T will Larry Legend we could use the LLE to sway a quality big man. This isn't looking likely though.

I honestly would prefer Scalabrine over Skinner, Ely, or Wright.

BBD is the best available for us right now, but I guess we are determined to let him walk/trade him away.

Scal isn't really the best option becuase he doesn't have the height, ability down low, or rebounding. But i agree that he's very valuable to this team.

  • Strength from Within
1. KG
2. Sheed
3. Perk
4. BBD
5. Scal
6. Shelden W

That is a solid (balanced) frontcourt

Same mistake as always, people trying to add number of players, without accounting that only 2 of the 4 players mentioned would be on the floor at any given time.

The real question is, what team can matchup well against KG-Perk, KG-Sheed, Sheed-Perk for a full game. I don't see anyone having a better 3 man rotation than ours, and that's all it takes.

TP for beating me to this point.

Quality is more important that quantity in the NBA. Trade 1 good player and a bunch of average to scrubs for one great player, suddenly you're title contender.

I could see the Shaq deal actually hurting the cavs, bc you can't have both on the floor at the same time, and Z's been able to stretch out defenses with his shooting ability...

Exactly--this isn't football.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

Given that neither Wallace or Sasha was of any use I think Shaq can only help them. Still I'm not worried about Shaq at all, only LeBron.

amen!
great point, while many of us might not like sheed playing against him we will love him in green, this is not a sam or marbury signing!
look at our decimated front court last playoffs and how well we did, KG is a force like very few in the nba

The thing is, we are in a special situation. We need the 4th quality big.

I can already hear the whining on this board when Sheed or Perk go down with an injury.
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

Well as of right now BBD is still a Celtic player. Until he gets an offer and we trade him I figure him in as the fourth big.

It's hard go any deeper than we are at that point. I do like Shelden as our 5th big off the bench.

Honestly I really hope Scal can get back to towel waving this year.

true...but scall filled in pretty well for KG before he got hurt again in denver...he can get them 5 minutes here and there if needed and not hurt the team
