As expected, the Bucks released veteran Bruce Bowen on Friday.

The veteran guard-forward was acquired in the June 23 trade that sent forward Richard Jefferson to the San Antonio Spurs.

Bowen was owed $4 million next season, but the contract was only partially guaranteed and the Bucks were able to realize a $2 million savings by releasing him prior to Saturday.

We have to get Bowen. Come playoff time, Bowen will be very useful. Until then we can use JR, and Billy alongside Marquis

Get Bowens.  Great to have as 4th swingman.  Can still get under Lebrons, Wade's and Kobe's skin.

Sign me up for Bowen as wing insurance.

Yes, Bowen would be a good signing. I'd be very happy to have him behind Marquis Daniels off the bench.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
He'd be a solid pickup.

However, I think picking him up would mean that House is going to play the point again this year.

The bench would be House, Daniels, Bowen, Baby(?), Sheed

  • Let them hate, as long as they fear
By the time Ainge finds out Bowen is available, some other team will have signed him.
And someday in the midst of time,
When they ask you if you knew me
Remember that you were a friend of mine

I'm fine with House as our backup PG.

At this point, I'd take House as PG. When the opposing PG gives him hell, give Ray or Marquis the ball. We need Bowen for sure. We need BBD for sure. And I think we still need to look for another SG/SF that can really shoot. And a 5th big man for assurance.
Can't stop, Rondo!

I don't think Bowen has anything left to offer the Celtics.

His days of being a solid defensive contributor are over.
San Antonio would have re-signed him had he had anything more
value to bring to the team.

Pass on Bowen, open up the spot for Bill Walker to show what
he can do.

Sign Bowen.

He's no dirtier than Posey or Perkins, who we all cheer(ed).

Furthermore, while his days of starting are over, at best he'd be the 4th wing, averaging 5-10 mpg.  He could fit the role nicely, hitting the open weakside three and playing tough defense.

As for Bill Walker/J.R. Giddens, who cares?  They're rookies.  As for Walker, if we bury him one more year, we can sign him cheap for a third year, and get Bird rights on him in case he blows up the year after.  And if Bowen is really washed up and Walker/Giddens is any good, it won't be a big deal to see one of them beat him out later in the year.

The only way Bowen is a bad move at the minimum is if there is a better vet. option out there, and I'm not seeing it.

I could never like him. There is a difference between being dirty to get in someone's head (James Posey) and having intent to injure (Bruce Bowen).

I really hope they sign him.  As a guy who loves good defense, the idea of throwing out a lineup of Rondo, Pierce, Bowen, KG, and Wallace makes me a bit Giddy.  They would make opposing teams litterally walk off the court in frustration and annoyance.

Actually sliding bowen to backup SF and sliding daniels to PG is fine. He drives, slashes, and finishes better as a PG. That allows house to stay at SG. I notice (as well as a few others here) that house doesnt get it done at the point. Not saying he is a bad PG but he plays better off the ball getting the 3.

House could guard the PG, but i think Daniels would do most of the ball handling with that lineup.
