As you can see, the parts are still up in the air, but I would not be the least bit surprised if there is some sort of three-way deal being formulated here, that uses NJ's trade exception to help balance off the salaries, to get around the BYC status.
No that I thought about it again, it basically has to be a 3-team trade. I tried several trade possibilities involving only NJ, and it doesn't work either way, because Baby's salary only counts as half the salary outgoing from us, but the full salary incoming for the Nets.
NJ is under the cap... these rules don't apply to them unless the trade puts them over the cap. If Baby gets about a 4million contract, they should be able to do a 2 for 2 trade easily.
Good point. I think they are only about $2 million under the cap, but if they are sending out some salary this would work.
Does anyone know if they have to give up their MLE to make a trade using their cap space, or is that only if they want to sign someone using their cap space? So could they trade say, Yi for Davis and then still use their MLE on someone else? Roy?
Since the amount they're under the cap is not bigger than the ammount of the MLE, they currently have the MLE and won't lose it in a trade.
Edit: By the way, they don't have the amount under the cap AND the MLE to sign players. Just the MLE and the other exceptions like any other team over the cap.
