So this is the thread we go to now to prove that our votes weren't strategic or retaliatory?

  • Doc could learn a thing or two from Norman Dale
Team-by-team:

1.  Toronto.  I really like their defense, and I'm a believer in KG.
2.  Orlando.  Lebron is a stud, and the talent around him all fills a role.
3.  Chicago.  While their depth absolutely worries me, I think they'll win their division.
4.  Philadelphia.  I'm a believer in their talent, and they have a very talented front line (although Bynum is a question mark).
5.  Detroit. I have them higher than most people, because I'm a huge Amare' fan.
6.  Boston.  D-Wade alone lifts them to sixth.
7.  I think Stephen Jackson has turned into a leader, and he'll help galvanize the team.  I would have liked them better with Felton and Outlaw, though.
8.  My fourth Atlantic Division team.  I'm not sold on their 5/1 combination, but I love Pierce and Brand.
9.  Good talent, but in the end there were two many players who are perpetually in the lottery for me to make them a playoff team.  It doesn't quite seem fair, though.
10.  This is a fairly mismatched roster, but in the end, I think talent alone will win them some games.
11.  I don't believe in Vince Carter, Nenad Krstic doesn't impress me as a power forward, and I think Marvin Williams is overrated.
12.  Another team that I think should be higher, but I don't know who to move down.  Any team led by Durant is going to be winning a huge number of games in the future.
13.  I think this team is looking more toward the future.   Arenas will win some games on his own, but they're not there yet.
14.  Another future oriented squad.  I like the foundation a lot, and I'm a big fan of Hawes in the middle.
15.  They've got a lot of young guys.  By mid-season, I could see them moving Caron Butler for more pieces.

1.  Philadelphia - I really think my team is very balanced and can play multiple styles successfully and I think my parts compliment as a whole.
2.  Orlando - Orlando should dominate its division, and Lebron is the MVP.
3.  Chicago - I had Orlando above Chicago because I think this team is weak where Orlando is best.
4.  Toronto - Solid defensive team, I do worry about that killer instinct go to guy though.
5.  Detroit - Really like their starting 5, but there are still some questions that could be answered by the next voting mark.
6.  Boston - Wade is enough to get them in the playoffs, I don't hold the supporting cast as high others do, but Rafer is a good PG for Wade.
7.  New Jersey - Team may be underrated, they have classic vets on this team, but I'm concerned about their backcourt.
8.  Cleveland - Team seems well balanced, and I think Bogut is a good player while healthy (I think he will be).  The bench helped push them into this seed.  Could move up at next vote as well.
9.  Washington - I'm not sold on Sessions as full time starter yet.  Team was the hardest to place.  They have the wings to be competitive but I think they lack everywhere else compared to the teams above them.
10. New York - Great PG, SG is suspect, I hold Marvin Williams higher than probably than most, and can't go wrong with a workhorse like Perk.
11. Milwaukee - Was another tough team to place.  I love Durant!  Think this team can be scary good in the future.
12. Indiana - Lost Wafer hurt, but didn't have them in the playoffs anyways.  Don't think they have enough.
13. Atlanta - 10 man team?  2 very questionable superstars, will be hard to move them up.
14. Charlotte - Have Charlotte above Cuba because I see 2 real go to guys on this team.
15. Cuba - While very young they lack that go to guy who can take a load on his shoulders.

So just wondering how voting irregularities might be handled, if there are any.

Let's just say for example a team, after 20 votes is averaging somewhere in the 11th-12th place for conference and then owner of said team votes his team first in the conference.

Will that vote stand?

Just wondering?

Man, people aren't big fans of Amare', are they?  Detroit is getting left out of a lot of playoff votes.

To nick:  my perspective on that is, it's natural to expect a *little* bit of vote inflation for one's team.  I guess you figure it evens out over time, so long as the voter is objective otherwise (i.e., not voting down other division rivals).  It's not perfect, but ultimately, this is for fun.

1 Orlando
2 Toronto
3 Chicago
4 Cleveland
5 Philadelphia
6 Washington
7 New Jersey
8 Boston
9 Detroit
10 New York
11 Indiana
12 Atlanta
13 Milwaukee
14 Cuba
15 Charlotte

I really had some trouble with this, but feel confident in my final assessment. The first three in my opinion are debatable but not really important enough to debate. Everyone has them in the playoffs so it doesn't matter.

I really like Cleveland's depth, and like the way they fit together. Cleveland seems to be a polarizing team on the basis of their voting, but I'm on board with the way that team was constructed. I like Philly and Washington too, and don't really think that needs addressing. They should both be there (in the playoffs). Now began the difficulty for me.

First, NJ in my opinion has a lot of veteran experience and what I would perceive to be chemistry. I believe in that combination of guys and that they would be playoff worthy. They are possibly the most experienced team in the conference, and I think most of those guys still have it.

I don't like the questions that surround Boston's roster, but Dwayne Wade has enough pieces around him to take out the no defense Pistons. I wanted to put Detroit in the playoffs, but I just don't see them stopping anyone defensively at almost any position. I just kept going back to Wade on Mayo, and that was such a big advantage that I went with the defensive big men in Boston slowing down Amare enough that the Wade/Mayo advantage was far greater then the Amare/Nene, etc. advantage. Every one of them is a solid offensive piece, but I don't see stoppers on that roster.

10-15 probably doesn't really need addressing, but if it does I'll do that as well.

In the same vein, the 14th place vote for New York seems a little low.  Was that due solely to the fact that NY didn't post its own picks / defend its team, or do you not like the players?

I know my voting for NY at #11 had alot to do with the fact that they are playing 4 other playoff caliber teams in their division and will probably get beat up on.

Ditto. If they were in the Southeast, I'd have had them making the playoffs instead of at 10.

I believe this vote is the one you're talking about:

1. Indiana Pacers (ya'all hatin!)
2. Orlando Magic
3. Philly 76ers
4. Chicago Bulls
5. Detroit Pistons
6. Toronto Raptors
7. Boston Celtics
8. New Jersey Nets

9. New York Knicks
10. Atlanta Hawks
11. Cleveland Cavaliers
12. Milwakee Bucks
13. Washington Boxers
14. Miami Heat
15. Charlotte Bobcats

I don't think this vote is anything shady because he boosts up his own division as well as himself. He's got 3 teams from the central, and for the most part the rest of the teams are in line of reason.

I don't agree with teh ballot but I don't think he's being vindictive or manipulative by any means.
