So Dallas is another  big player out of the BBD hunt. Whats interesting/scary about this is they gave Gooden around 5 million. If they offered that to Baby he would have almost certainly been gone.

I think at $5 mil, you could scratch out that "almost".

Yup, solid short term fill in since they lost out on Gortat.

I do like how it's a 1 ear deal. They can always use him as trade bait (unless he has an exception). If the cap does look to shrink a lot (and you can tell by February), an Dallas doesn't want to go into free agency, a Jho+Gooden expirings trade would be huge.

My only problem is Brandon Bass got less than Gooden did (though for more years). I feel like Bass could have been a better contributer.

Considering Gooden played for the vet min at the deadline, he definitely struck some gold. I hope this doesn't mess up the market for the remaining big men (I can see Hakeem Warrick's agents eyes lighting up with dollar signs)

Shouldn't the threat title be "Drew Gooden to Mavericks, puts them ahead of Celtics/Ainge- soon to rule world"?

I always forget the guy is only 27!

He definitely did good for himself on that deal.

Glad we can cross Dallas of the BBD list.

Is it me, or did Drew Gooden fall of the earth??? I don't know what happened to him. He was playing pretty well in Cleveland and Chicago, now suddenly he's mediocre and his worth is 5 mil ???

Well, it was a 1 year deal, and I think the C's would have definitely matched ANY 1 year deal for Davis.

Anyways, this is a good deal for both Gooden and Dallas.  On talent and production, Gooden is worth much more than a 1 year, $5 million deal.  There are some real questions about his attitude, and BBIQ, but given what was left out there, this was a great pickup by Dallas, who still needed to add to their talentbase, if they wanted any chance to keep up with LA and SA.  I think Gooden was by far the most talented big man left out there.

Now this leaves Dallas with a lot more talent than they had last year...but also some major issues with how to fit the players (and personalities) together.  They will be a really interesting team to watch next season.  And they still have another big chip in Dampier's (semi)expiring contract to upgrade even more.
