Hum... I'm glad with our Daniels signing (well, if he signs someday... ::)) but I can't help thinking Danny should have done the same thing as the Cavs, offering Moon a contract to see if Miami would match. I wouldn't have cost him anything just to try and maybe we coul have landed Moon.

How much money did the Cavs offer Moon?

about $6/2 with a team option for a 3rd
We couldn't have offered him any more than the LLE, but did we even attempt a sign and trade with TA and company.
Probably did, there was reports we explored a sign and trade. But Miami doesn't want to take on any salary so the talks didn't get anywhere.

We already used up our MLE. We couldn't offer as much as Clev.

Moon is not in the position to leave money on the table.

Now we can enjoy Pierce destroying him.

Lebron guards Pierce.  End of story.

Go ahead and downplay the Cavs talent outside of Lebron.  Whatever makes you feel better about next year

Why would Moon have signed it though?  The Cavs were offering significantly more than the LLE.

Unfortunately, signing Wallace took the C's out of the running for Moon...but that is the price you have to pay to get a talent like Wallace coming off your bench.

Does the Moon signing make you feel better about last year?  Or the year before?

I think the Cavs do have some nice talent around Lebron.  My only issue is that unless Shaq plays like he did last year (which is obviously not out of the question), it is still Lebron and a bunch of roleplayers.  Given the way other teams have really stocked up on legit, all-around players, it just means that Lebron needs to be even more otherworldly...which he may be able to be.

Mo Williams is a great regular season player, who can be exploited in the playoffs due to his streaky shooting, and terrible defense.

Varajao is a nice (but not great) defensive player, and decent (but not even above average) offensive player.

Delonte West is another streaky shooter, who is a decent defender, but can be exploited by bigger, or quicker players, and can be stopped on offense if you stay on his shooting hand, and don't give him his left.

Both Moon and Parker are also decent offensive players, and decent defenders.  They definitely give them more length than they had last year on the wing, but they are not a huge upgrade talentwise over someone like West, or even Pavlovic when he is healthy.

Z is also a nice player, but obviously has some huge holes in his game.  He is admittedly one of the better Centers in the NBA.  But that is mostly by default.

The bottom line is the Cavs have 2 players who IMO are "stars".  Lebron and Shaq.  But then they have about 6 other guys who would be legit rotation players, but on many historical championship teams would be better served as bench players in Williams, West, Parker, Moon, Z, and Andy.

You compare that to the C's, who have 5 guys who could be legit stars (Rondo, Pierce, Allen, KG, Wallace).  The Magic have 4 (Nelson, Howard, Carter, Lewis).  The Spurs have 4 (Duncan, Ginobili, Parker, Jefferson). The Lakers have 4, with the potential of 5 (Kobe, Gasol, Odom, Artest...Bynum has the potential).

Of course Lebron IS good enough to make up the difference.  But until they bring in another star, who is closer to their prime than Shaq, I am no more afraid of Cleveland than I was last year, or two years ago....and that is still afraid, but I think the C's have at least an even chance to beat them.

I was of this opinion of Moon BEFORE the Cavs rumors started, so I don't have to rationalize how I feel about him joining the Cavs.

Is there any substance to the grumblings that LeBron will play the 4 next year?

We'll beat you anyway, Mac.
20 TP's for you if we don't.
10 TP's for me WHEN we do.

I am not saying that the Cavs are better than Boston without Lebron, what I am saying is that they are not a lottery team without him. Their reserves are not near as bad as people like to think they are.

The Moon signing helps the Cavs get a little more athletic on the perimeter, especially on defense.  Moon and Carter will definitely be spending some time guarding Allen (they are much tougher to shoot over than delonte) while Delonte guards Rondo.  Lebron will still be on Pierce, with AV on KG.  Shaq will at least have an interior presence where Z would just allow anyone to score in the paint in the past.

Actually, the beginning of this year should be very interesting for the Cavs.  They are planning on giving JJ Hickson some major minutes at the beginning of the year to see if he can produce.  If the Cavs get Hickson or Jackson to the point where they can produce then they will have a major weakness (PF) resolved

Oh, I completely disagree.  I think they are absolutely a lottery team without Lebron.  Lebron makes all of those players significantly better than they would be on other teams.

That is a very mediocre team without Lebron, that would need to have the best chemistry in the history of the NBA to even sniff a .500 record.

However, with Lebron, the whole is greater than the sum of all of the parts.  He is so good, he hides the weaknesses of every player he is on the floor with.
