Yeah, I'm also waiting since yesterday for the Daniels announcement. Because I'm curious to see who goes and what our options will be.

Gosh, why? There are numerous reasons, and both Indy and the C's want to get it done.

Wouldn't a simple Scal + $$ S&T work for both sides?  I don't see us having anyone that Indiana would really want as a player.  Give them Scal plus a little more than $2M.  They buy him out for $2M and pocket whatever the "little more" is.  Scal re-signs at the vet minumum (about $1M), keeps the same dollars in his pocket ($2M buyout plus $1M new contract), but the Celtics save $2M on luxury tax.

Daniels gets a $3M contract to match Scal's outgoing contract, so he gets a little bit more than the LLE.  The extra $1M he earns, plus the luxury tax, offsets the money the C's save by getting Scal's contract from $3M to $1M.

Daniels gets more money.  The Pacers get a couple hundred thousand for their efforts.  Scal comes back to be our fifth big, none worse for the wear.  No net cost to the C's, just the League gets a little less of a luxury tax payment.

not a bad idea really - but I'm not sure if all the parties would go for it

If we can work out a S&T, acquire daniels and keep our minimum for another bench player, I will be thrilled.

Not terrible, but I think the Pacers would probably want some talent back for their trouble. I also think their is some virtue to not giving Daniels a bigger deal.

If Danny uses the LLE for another quality player, then I'd be okay with it.

You can sign as many minimum contracts as you want. Its the bi-annual exception, or LLE that is limited.

Yea, I originally had typed LLE but then changed it to minimum not realizing what I was doing.

I'd be OK with either Giddens or Walker going by the wayside to pick up Daniels (hoping and praying that they keep the right guy!).  There should be a few spot minutes for one of those two players this season, but it's hard to see how both will be able to get any playing time.  They sure as hell can have Pruitt!

If they do make this a S&T, I'm pretty sure they'll use the LLE at some point - either on a point guard, to flesh out the big man rotation in case BBD doesn't come back.  The MIGHT hold onto it for February.  They'll be another "Joe Smith Situation" in late winter, it'll be nice to have a little bit more money to offer whoever gets bought out.

Plus, if we use the LLE to sign Daniels, I don't think we have it available to us next summer.

The idea, though...  we're loading up.  If Daniels is a S&T, the LLE will be used either to pursue someone else this summer or to fill in whatever holes develop over the first half of the season.  I just hate to give up Scal in a trade, I think the big lug has grown on all of us and shown that he really DOES have a role to fill on this team.  He just signed here two seasons too early, is all.

Scal's contract is $3.4 million - he won't take a buyout of less than $2.3 or $2.4 million - why would he? In fact, since he'd be giving up Bird rights to take a buyout and resign at the veterans minimum, he'd probably want a little more of a bonus to agree to this. Not that anybody's gonna be trying to get Scal for a whole bunch of money next year, but what if a scenario pops up where we need to sign a body for $5 mil to include in a trade - Scal would be in position to make that $5 mil just to be there. Why give that up? It's like the Devean George in Dallas situation a couple of years ago. Why give up rights, even if it's unlikely you'll actually get any use out of them? It's business. Hold onto any advantage you have.

I'm just not sure it'd all work out in the end to do a trade of Scal banking on him getting bought out and returning.
Go Celtics.

Maybe like a bit of a downpour, but I don't expect a huge storm (like something major happening).  My guess is news about the Daniels deal will come out in a day or two, with possibly some consequences from that if it is a sign and trade...but I don't know if that is really a storm.
