We'll see what happens if Portland offers BBD for the MLE or more (in years 3+).  That's unlikely to happen, but I doubt very much that Danny would match any possible offer.
I don't think Portland would make that sort of offer. You don't pay an average backup big man 5+ million a year.

Jason Maxiell is a $5M a year player.
He also rebounded and scored at a much more efficient rate than BBD his contract year.

Portland only has cap space for this year, they aren't going to waste it getting a backup. Even carrying it to the trade deadline should allow them to land an impact player.

Maxiell first three years:

2.3 pts and 1.1 rbds
5.0 pts and 2.8 rbds
7.9 pts and 5.3 rbs

BBD First two years

4.5 pts and 3.0 rbds
7.0 pts and 4 rbds

I think BBD has the nod so I dont think its out the realm that BBD could get $5M in a S&T

BTW is anyone else having a decided negative reaction to people breaking major player news via twitter? Gosh darn kids today...
Ugh, twitter.
Simply the name derives a negative reaction from me.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

I think the OP is saying that Danny WON'T match any offer, not the other way around.

correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like Tanger is reporting that the Cs are going in a different  direction for a backup big...not that they are going to keep BBD no matter what offer gets...

also could be a ploy too. sounds to me that they are trying to make sure BBD doesn't get any offers and will be forced to come back to the Cs on their terms.

It certainly sounds like that.  It's been obvious this entire time the C's wouldn't match MLE+.  But then again why wouldn't we match 2-3mil?

Take a look at shooting percentages, minutes played, rebounding rate, foul rate, and turnover rate.

How you get your points and rebounds is much more important than how many you get.

I feel you. Personally I think twitter is useful during this free agency period because instead of refreshing every nba covering page you know while searching for the latest move, you can just follow some reporters and websites and get to know the latest news faster and easier. People just have to keep in mind that not everything you read on a "known" twitter account is true...

...but for what it's worth, Goodens' twitter account says  :P:
Quote
Pistons, Bucks, Cav's, Bobcats. Which team is the best fit for me?
http://twitter.com/DrewGooden/status/2691625376

Where he ends up does not depend only on what he wants, but also on what his agent wants and what teams are willing to offer for his services.

For the Celtics, I prefer having BBD over Gooden. I just don't want him to end up in Cleveland...

a force to reckon with...
just pick your poison.

Just curious, how long does Baby have to decide on the qualifying offer we gave him?

Meh Gooden and LeBron weren't that scary last time they played together. At least not any scarier than just LeBron.

Here's some info from the FAQ:

Quote
A player can elect to accept his qualifying offer (the qualifying offer must be accepted by March 1) and play the following season under its terms. This is sometimes done in order to become an unrestricted free agent the following summer (see question number 38).

A qualifying offer cannot be accepted after March 1. Teams may place a shorter time limit on their qualifying offer, specifying any date between October 1 and March 1 by which it must be accepted. If the deadline passes and the qualifying offer is neither withdrawn nor accepted, then the player continues to be a restricted free agent. The team and player are also still free to negotiate a new contract after the qualifying offer ends -- the deadline only affects the player's ability to accept the qualifying offer.

Teams may also withdraw an outstanding qualifying offer in which case the player becomes unrestricted.

So I'm not sure if the Celtics put a limiting date on the offer (like by the start of the season or something), but if he doesn't get a good offer from another team it sounds like Davis will wait for the last second before deciding to sign the best offer he finds or take the Q.O. and try next year as a UFA.

I don't think Doc likes Gooden. Had him in Orlando, and described him as flaky.  Good observation, frankly.
