Yeah, I know it's old news but Marbury himself tweeted about his status with the C's :

"StarburyMarbury@uno_sorry my man i wanted to come back to the celts but its just not going to work out" about 7 hours ago from web

Per Starbury's twitter

He talks about "workouts" in the following tweets, I'm wondering where he will end... I still have hope to see him back in green but I guess it's very unlikely.

He also told someone who said that he should still sign "sorry, they signed someone else."

So perhaps his offer was out of courtesy but he was informed that if they could land Wallace they would rescind it. So he just declined it.

And his "workouts" he is talking about are at his workout location in LA where they do all kinds of new exercises. He has a video out I believe demonstrating the new techniques the trainers there use.

I think it's more likely that he wanted the MLE, or at least a part of it.  Once that was gone, he decided to chase the money, which he isn't finding (mostly because he proved absolutely nothing last season).

He also mentioned that there were more personal reasons as to why he isn't coming back to boston.

But agree to disagree.

though he left a lot to be desired by season's end, I was still hoping to have him back.  Mostly because he is better than most of the other back-up point guard options out there, and he was starting to become familiar with our system.

I thought he proved to be a good employee for us, he attempted to be a pass first point guard  (to a fault sometimes,) and he's certainly got a very good set of talents.  But alas it is not meant to be.

I would have preferred to have him back, too, but only at a minimum salary.  I don't think he was down with that.

Yea I agree as well. The only way I woulda took him back is for the min and that pretty much what the Celts would brought him back for.

I was a huge Marbury hater but I give him a lot of credit for changing his ways. He never bad mouthed the Celts and gave them a lot of credit for giving him a chance. He was actually a class act with his time with the Celts.

At the end of the day, a lack of willingness to come back for the vet minimum (after the millions he's already made in his career) might be the first sign that trouble would have laid ahead had he signed.  It's the first indication that his heart isn't in it for a championship.

Makes me think just a little bit more that his signing and behavior last season were just an attempt to get a better deal this year.

Still, I would have loved to see him come back if all that truly mattered to him was a championship (not PT, money, or a starting job.)

So why the heck did he say it was up to the C's? The C's wanted to have him back, but he thought we would be throwing money at him. What a Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.. I can live without him.

Doesn't make any sense.   He is going to turn down playing with KG,PP,Ray,Sheed,Perk,Rondo,BBD to play with a bunch of Ricky Rubio look a likes.   Does he realize we signed Sheed, shouldn't that mean he would stay in Boston, realizing winning a title is that much more possible if he signed for min.  Especially playing with KG & Sheed.  Here is his chance to play with so many other great players and he is turning down the offer makes no sense.

i was disappointed in his play with us, but was open to his return, figuring he would have an entire offseason and training camp to work on his game with our organization.

however, at first mention this offseason of contracts/$, i want nothing to do with him.  when he starts talking about money and/or a contract, he becomes the cancer that history has proven.

peace out steph

He'd be lucky if someone offers him their LLE. I don't think he's getting anything more than this.

After $130M in career earnings, I think it is pretty important to get $1M per season more than what the Celtics were offering ($1.3M). ::)

Yeah, who's going to give him part of the MLE (which he is hoping for), let alone the LLE? If he accepts the LLE ($600K more than the C's offer) from another team, he's just a retard!

I absolutely feel the same way.

Well praise the f'n lord! Hallelujah!!

Marbury is gone and with him that FUGLY sight of seeing #8 on his jersey.   Thank you, KG for getting hurt and thus, indirectly, preventing the C's from going all the way again this year....Marbury winning a title with Walker's number would've been the ultimate slap in the face to Toine, the Gambling King.   :P

Hopefully, the next time the C's give that #8 to someone, it will be a player who busts his azz night-in and night-out on the court...
