Quick trade with OKC:

T. Allen, House, Scalabrine, 2010 #1 for Watson and Wilkins

The trade immediately saves OKC $1.1 million, and probably another $1-$2 million after buyouts. They pickup an asset (2010 #1) for a player outside their long term plans and another player burried behind five young wings.

Boston gets a perfect backup point and a very solid, veteran wing without adding to their long term payroll. Assuming Davis agrees to play for the tender or signs up longer term, we would have room for Powe and Swift (You know Ainge is going to do it).

Rondo-Watson
Allen-Wilkins
Pierce-Wilkins
Garnett-Wallace
Perkins-Wallace

Pruitt-Hudson-Giddens-Walker-Davis-Powe-Swift
"All I have to know is, he's my coach, and I follow his lead. He didn't have to say anything in here this week. We all knew what we had to do. He's a big part of our family, and we're like his extended family. And we did what good families do when one of their own is affected." - Teddy Bruschi

1) Celtics can not trade 2010 1st because they traded away 2009.  (teams have to draft in the 1st round at least every other year)

2) They are not worth a 1st round pick

3) I would only be interested in such a trade is if House wasn't a part of it.

Watson has one year at about 6mil remaining on his deal. I'd be happy to have the guy for TA and Scal but only if we have a plan to acquire a solid wing player.

The Stepien rule applies only to future first round picks. For example, if this is the 2005-06 season, then a team can trade its 2006 first round pick without regard to whether they had traded their 2005 pick, since their 2005 pick is no longer a future pick. But they can't trade away both their 2006 and 2007 picks, since both are future picks. Teams sometimes work around this rule by trading first round picks in alternate years.

Re. #2
The first round pick is going to be in the bottom four or five, and as much as I like the kid, this team does not need another J.R. Giddens.

Re. #3
It hurt to put House in there, but the only other way it works under the cap is if we send Pruitt, Giddens and Walker instead. I do not mind doing that, but it leaves a really hard to fill gap in our roster - three cheap reserves.

I figure the loss of House is mitigated by the addition of a really outstanding backup in Watson, and a solid wing reserve in Wilkins. Between them, I do not see Eddie seeing the court very often.

Personally I think Eddie is better than Watson. Maybe TA 4 Wilkins, that way we'll have a cheap backup SF.
