I miss Steve!
I offer a lame attempt at the filling the gap, or perhaps creating a new void in the process, by offering a vast abyss of nothingness. It's no Babble, but I'll see what I can come up with some random thoughts.
Antoine Walker joins the long list of gifted athletes who could not handle the rewards those gifts brought him. Some guys lose it all on poor investments (see Bernie Kosar), some find drugs, some spend it all on frivolous things (see Mike Tyson), and then there's the gambler (see Mr. Wiggles). Usually it's some combination of two or three of the aforementioned list, with some child support/alimony thrown into the mix. It's hard to have any pity for Toine at this point. His career's pretty much done, and now he has to figure out how to clean up the mess he made. How do you do that? What does Antoine have to fall back on?
I guess he can earn some money in Europe or something. It's just silly.

WBCN's demise has brought up a lot of nostalgic thoughts for me. I grew up listening to BCN in it's heyday. It's crazy to think how much the role of the music radio station has changed now. They used to be the main source for hearing some new stuff, and deciding whether to go out and get it or not. Now we are hearing more and more stations that are basically going the route of being a public Ipod shuffle run by a robot. There are so many more options to get out tunes now that offer a hell of a lot more personal decision making then just selecting from what's aired on the radio.
WBCN gave me the basis for most of my musical tastes, but they did it with a sense of humor, and an attitude that made you feel like you were part of the fun.
Michael Jackson on WBCN...When Michael Jackson died the thing I immediately thought of was how big the "Thriller" album was. What made me aware that album was something different was when I woke up to the Big Mattress hyping the new release of a tune with Eddie Van Halen playing guitar for Michael Jackson. I couldn't believe they were playing Michael on the "rock of Boston", but having Eddie on it made it cool to play. My first time hearing "Beat It" was on WBCN.
Tim Wakefield the All Star never got to make a pitch in the game, but I'm ok with that, and more importantly he's ok with it. Madden was coaching the game to win it, and you can't fault him for the choices he made. Throwing a Wakefield crapshoot out there in the middle of a close game, against some top notch hitters, was probably not the best plan. In Wake's case, the honor of being named to the game is not diminished by not getting in the box score.
School
Without getting into the gory details, my professor pretty much dropped the ball on our entire session for our last class (my classes meet one full weekend a month, and each class is two months). I received an A for the class, but have yet to see any graded material. I now know for certain that my approach to school is a whole lot different than my prior experiences in school, since I'm actually not at all pleased about just getting a rubber stamp A (as far as I know everyone's in the same boat with the A's too). With the amount of work my classmates and I put into our projects it's pretty insulting not seeing any feedback.
Back in the day, I'd be tickled pink with an A any way it came. Not now. Not this way.
...ok...back to work...this probably won't, in fact, be a daily thing, but I felt the need to take a break from school stuff and vent a bit.
