I will be watching Rondo next year to see if he does the things he did not do consistently this year:
1. Shoot the ball decently from the perimeter.
2. Move the basketball through the pass and with the dribble.
3. Play every offensive possession hard.
4. Play every defensive possession hard.
5. Keep his man in front of him on the defensive end.
6. Fight through every screen.
7. Shoot foul shots competently.
Ergo, I could care less how many triple-doubles he has. They don't accurately measure improvement in his game.
Rondo could have a mvp-level season and you'd probably knock one or two items off of your list but add three more.
By the way, do you have a list of players who play hard on every single offensive and defensive possession and fight through every screen? Because we should try and load up on players like that. A list of point guards who keep their men in front of them on the defensive end would also be helpful. Maybe we could trade Rondo for a decent pg, or at least an average one.
More excuses, eh?
Line them up.
Only too happy to knock them down.
Where did you read an excuse in that? If Rondo's so bad at keeping his man in front of him you should easily be able to name a decent amount of point guards that are clearly better at it than him. Also plenty of pgs that fight through every screen. Go ahead and knock those "excuses" down.
Based on your laundry list of extensive faults, it seems that a) you should be able to make an equally long list of faults for most of the pgs in the league, b) Rondo must be so wildly better than any other pg at everything he's good at that he's a good pg despite his faults, or c) he's a below average pg. Unless there's a d) that I'm missing?
