There doesn't seem to be any urgency to sign a backup point guard.  With Marbury out of the picture are you satisfied with Gabe Pruit as your backup to Rondo? My opinion is if he focuses on being aggressive he could be a very good backup. I like GB over Ty Lue or others that have been mentioned.

No he's not, but the fear is stronger for the wings because we have Eddie who can play some point and we have Rondo who is young enough to lead the team in minutes.

No.  No I'm not.

I think chasing after a swing is the wrong priority.  I'm going to shout this from the rafters until Danny hears me, but we need a backup PG.  Priority #1.

We can't let an unproven player take the reigns, and we can't give the duty to House.  We need him free from the ball, roaming, finding open shots.

We have depth at 2/3... we have nobody behind Rondo.

He's a fine 3rd PG.

Considering Rondo will play 38 minutes a game: Gabe is a great defender, decent on offense, and has a solid handle, I am perfectly fine with this. Also, Doc doesn't mind putting Eddie as the 1.

Gabe is a good defender, KG is a great defender. I don't think he's a better defender than Pierce or Allen and they certainly aren't great.

Assuming Pruitt's handle can get the ball up against pressure he's acceptable as a third stringer. House is our backup PG for now, and if Rondo is playing big minutes, that will be good enough.

Right now Walker and TA are heading for 30+ minutes (combined) off the bench - that scares me much more than House at PG 10 minutes a game.

He hasn't played well enough to even be considered a contender for that rotational spot at this point.

Is it bad that Lester Hudson broke his finger, but I'd still rather take my shot with him at this point?  I don't think Gabe gets 'it', and I don't think he will.  He'll survive in the league for a few years because he can play D, but unless something in him clicks, he won't be an important part of a contender's rotation.

I don't have much problem with Pruitt if he's more aggressive and attacks the paint. He has a good shot, he has to hit it in games though. But his size for a PG is good for us since he can play with House no problem, doing some cross matching.

He doesn't run the team well, but if he can penetrate, find the open man when needed, protect the ball, and defend, he could be good enough for the time being. But we'll see what's out there.

I would really hate going after small PGs if you're going to keep Eddie around.

We have depth at the 2/3? Giddens/Walker/TA dont really count as depth. Hell, House is more depth at the one than the projects are at the 2/3 (remember, Sam did not play in the finals, and Eddie was very effective handling the ball for portions of Game 4).

I think it's too early to say anything about Pruitt. He played well in the summer league, and I don't think anyone has seen much of him during the summer to say much. Wait till training camp.

i'm with you. it's very difficult to knock what we've seen from gabe's defense, shooting and handling in his brief NBA minutes. naturally, like any player, he needs some consistant minutes in order to improve, and he has yet to receive them. that he has shown potential in these areas, and considering his ability to guard 2s when house is on the floor with him, i'm absolutely open to having gabe play 10-15 minutes a game at the beginning of the year. if it doesn't work, go sign lue or someone over the hill. but don't start the season with one of those guys who has no potential to grow into the role.

i'd like to hear a viable alternative out of these constant posts instead of the usual knocks on the player. who has a viable alternative to speak of out there? the most interesting one i've heard is marcus williams -- that's saying something.

From what I've seen, no.

from what we´ve seen, which is nothing.

We can´t really speculate on Gabe because we´ve only seen spotty glimpses of his game.

I say get a proven quantity if you can, though. Don´t take a risk when you´re contending for a championship.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.
