He has just agreed to a buyout with Phoenix and could be a decent player to have off the bench behind Perk, KG, and Sheed. Reuniting Sheed and Big Ben and having Big Ben as our 4th big man would solidify our big men positions and give us some insurance for a worst case scenario (injury, etc.).

Big Ben wouldn't be my first choice of a big by any means, and I'd rather have Big Baby, but we are talking about our 4th big here, not a starter, so I'll take what I can get for cheap.

I think Big Benjamen is only slightly more useful than Raef laFrentz at this point. I heard insurance may be paying for his contract rather than the Phoenix owner.

I'm definitely on board with this. Wallace actually still guarded our guys pretty well. I'm cool with him as long as we allow Eddie House's kid to shoot his free throws.

It depends what he has left in the tank.  I wouldn't mind having him off the bench as a 4th or 5th big man if he is healthy.  But wasn't he talking about retirement?

I think at this point the main goal is to piece together a bench that have decent passing ability and good defensive skills. All we need is people who won't be bleeding points, and Big Ben knows a thing or two about defense. As people have said above, it all depends on if he is indeed healthy.

It wouldn't surprise me if he was talking about retirement...maybe he'd come to Boston for one more run at a championship? He'd basically be insurance for an injury, so he wouldn't be playing too many minutes...

I'd like him if Big Baby leaves. He would be a decent 10-15 bench guy. Plus, he can rebound and defend the pretty well.

Wasn't Sheed talking about the possibility of retiring as well? I know PJ Brown was a couple years ago, but we got him...maybe we can do the same with Big Ben?

Ben Wallace will retire in my opinion, his last season was ruined by injuries and he is no more a great defensive player. Plus he wouldn't bring much to the team, he wouldn't come for the LLE, and we already have a Wallace on board. ;D

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
Did Joe Smith retire? In my opinion he'd be a better option. He wasn't to impressive with the Cavs, but he'd still be a very good 4th big.

I wonder if Joe Smith would take the LLE? I also wonder if Big Ben would be willing to take the LLE for a chance at one more championship with Sheed...

Could be interesting. Would be a nice defensive spark off the bench. They have bigger needs to address right now though.

here's an idea for backup SF:

there really aren't any good FA SF's right now...hopefully we can come up with something for backup PG from FA, we would still have money to throw at that position if we could get Big Ben for the LLE. I'm just trying to think of ways we can get a solid 4th big for the LLE...

Yeah, Joe Smith ranks above Big Ben at this point.  The FT's would hurt.
