now that grant hill is no longer available and danny has still not corrected his mistake of losing james posey last summer - what is the current plan for acquiring an effective wing to come off the bench so that paul pierce doesn't have to play himself into the ground again next season ??

please don't tell me that ainge is pleased with scalabrine's improvement last season or that tony allen just needs to stay healthy or that danny loves the progress of bill walker in the summer league  ...........

to win the title next season, we need a productive wing off the bench !!
The Four Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce

His name is Matt Barnes.  Unfortunately Danny has never ever heard of such a name.

Ainge is going to force Doc to play JR & Walker. I doubt will make any moves for backup SF until mid-season. I really hope we can get Travis Outlaw the sooner the better.

The Celtics also could save their biannual for a point guard or big man by giving Walker and Giddens a chance to back up Pierce. Ainge said he was impressed by the way both played during last week’s Orlando Pro Summer League. Considering backing up Pierce would only mean 10-15 minutes per game, it may not be a bad idea to go with one of the young guys.

This is from a Marc Spears article a couple of days ago.

Read it and weep.

We've already seen that this won't make Doc actually play them... he'll just squeeze every last drop from Paul while avoiding the rookies like the plague.

For my two cents it seems like the C's are probably going to have to go with what they have.

To make it clear up front, I'm a fan of the enemy and from my point of view what it has seemed like (I'm making my assumptions from reading blogs, feedback from the fans and the lack of movement from the C's braintrust) is that after using the MLE to get the player the team most coveted (Sheed), the fans and the team itself just assume that players are going to stumble all over themselves and settle for the LLE and a backup role on the C's so they have a chance to "get a ring".

I think at this point the perception of the C's is that of a rapidly aging contender that suffered through age, injuries and fatigue last season and were pushed mightily and eventually beaten by younger, hungrier teams. I think the fans of the Celtics and perhaps management themselves have to understand that they need to work and woo ALL players (not just talent like Sheed) to get them to come. There are too many teams out there making moves to get better and have just as much a chance at a title than the C's do. It can't just be "expected" that a good veteran player like a Grant Hill or Anthony Parker will come for low money just because it's the Celtics.

I think Doc has learned his lesson.

After picking up Sheed it appears that Ainge is taking a pretty relaxed approach to the off-season.  They arenĀ“t interested in spending fruitlessly and rushing to any conclusions.  They are gonna let the market hash itself out, they already got their number one target.  Sign and trades, free agents, and mid-season trades are all possibilites.  All of this is unfortunate news for the fans that wants resolution now.  I would be very happy with some of the names that have been tossed around, specifically Barnes.  But it seems unlikely at this juncture that we will see this, or anything else, happen to fill in the void behind Pierce.

I hate Ainge. He said that we're going to find a backup SF very soon, but since we landed Rasheed, nothing happened. Look at Orlando and look at us. No way we beat them with our current bench.

I would be Happy with Matt Barnes, Ime Udoka or Sasha Pavlovic.

I have a feeling that he's waiting for Sasha Pavlovic to be waived.

Look at Orlando?  I'm a hell of a lot more scared of SA.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale
