The Orlando Sentinel reports that the Magic have decided to match Marcin Gortat's five-year, $34 million offer sheet, extended to him by the Mavericks.

Wow...weird to give that much money to Howards backup? Granted its small money and made sense for the Mavs but why would the Magic pay that?  Desperation move?  I also dont like the Bass signing...Baby would have been a better fit IMO.

They can always trade him eventually. I think they had to do this. Losing Lee, Hedo, Gortat, Alston and battie and only getting Carter and anderson wasn't going to keep the pace.

Great point on trading him if they need to.

What about Baby over Bass...don't you think that makes more sense? (Weak) Comparison is KG spreading it out for the Landlord (Perk) under the net; reverse that and have baby opening it up more for Howard, seems more logical than Bass replicating to a much lesser extent Howards strengths.

Wow. How could Orlando have messed up so badly. They have totally blown it.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Can they even trade him now? If they could trade him it would make a ton more sense.

How could they let him walk?  They already use a SF at PF.  Without him, they become to small without Howard.

Now that they have both Bass and Gortat, I wonder if they are considering playing Lewis more at SF?  Especially against teams like the C's, Lewis could be a real liability at PF, but could hold his own at SF, with Howard protecting the basket.

I really like what Orlando has done this year.  They have gone all-in, and seem set on doing whatever is needed to win a championship.

This makes Dallas a player again for remaining FAs, and their team takes a huge hit. Gortat is a lot better than Dampier.

Gortat's a pretty good player...I dont mind this deal for them at all.

What if they have him start?
Nelson, Vince, Lewis, Gortat, Howard

well...it is rather important boston resign baby to match up with orlando's bigs gortat, bass, lewis, howard...we have the length we need some girth off the bench..

i would think boston having perk, kg, sheed and baby vs howard, lewis, gortat and bass boston has the edge in bigs...now orlando has good wings

i think bass still starts to provide some muscle down low..they know what they have with gortat coming off the bench. boston really needs to get moving on some free agents..i guess the magic still have some of their MLE left to go after barnes..orlando is going to be the team we are going to need to get through
