The Pistons reportedly turned down a trade with the Jazz that would have sent Carlos Boozer to Detroit for Tayshaun Prince.

A league source said that while the Pistons like Boozer, they simply couldn't let go of Prince.

That's nuts!

Boozer is a much better player than Prince, lineup issues be [dang]ed.

I think it's more of a hardball effort since Dumars would much rather give up Hamilton and is still trying to force Hamilton for Boozer first.

it better be... or Dumars might be entering Chris Wallace territory (Darko draft, Billups dump, etc.)

I just thought of something.

I'm not sure I trade either player for a one year rental of Boozer. If Boozer refused to sign an extension then I wouldn't do the trade. I don't think if he left it'd clear enough salary to sign a high level player if they just traded Prince for him.

Yeah, but Hamilton doesn't want to come off the bench and neither does Ben Gordon.  Could be Iverson/Hamilton all over again if they don't clear that logjam.  That's the main incentive to do Boozer for Hamilton.

Sorry, even without the extension I take my chances. Hell, worst case scenario: $12 million more to spend next summer.

That's an insult to how truly bad Chris Wallace is. Dunleavy does bad trades and decisions. Wallace? He lets people rent his cap space for some bucks to complete trades. Getting one expiring and cash so Dallas can become stronger? Throwing himself in the Rafer trade so he can get an expiring? It's ridiculous.

That was yet another mistake by Dumars.

Maybe he is just high on how Prince fits with Gordon and Charlie.

Maybe he knows that Utah is getting desperate and is working them for even a better deal.

I am trying to work out their rotation:

PG: Stuckey/Bynum
SG: Gordon/Hamilton/Afflalo
SF: Prince/Daye/Summers
PF: Charlie V/Maxiell/Sharpe
C: Kwame

Hmm, what the heck is Joe D up to? He must be trying to unload Rip. He must feel like Prince is undervalued and expect that Boozer would exit ASAP once getting to Detroit, so I can't really fault him. Summers has looked like a good player in the summer league so far. He looks much more ready than Daye, though I expected Daye to bust anyways. Daye is definitely a project anyhow.

I'd be fine with taking Afflalo off of their hands.

Tayshaun makes 11 million in 2010-2011, but with the contracts of Gordon/Charlie V it is not straigh forward. They woulnd't get the full 12 million to spend. Plus if they spend any of their remaining cap room, say get a SF, then Boozer leaving would give them even less cap room.

It could also be he doesn't think he can win with Boozer/Charlie V/Maxiell/Brown at the 4/5 position. Boozer really needs a shot blocking center to pair with.

Still from a talent and contract stand point Prince/Boozer is very lopsided.

Actually, it is straight forward. According shamsports and hoopshype, The Pistons are currently under or at the cap. That means a $12 million expiring can be used on the open market next summer for that exact amount (and more when you include other expiring or cap room). Also, Charlie V. will start at the 3 (SF).

17,000,000 (Charlie and Gordon)

No its not, they'd need to sign another SF. Also the cap is projected to drop 5 to 7 million dollars. That'd eliminate most of the cap room they'd get if Boozer left them.
