Don Nelson strikes again

This guy has a knack of finding diamond in the rough. 3 seasons ago it was Kelenna Azubuike, and last season Anthony Morrow the 3point sniper. I think the new guy is Cartier Martin. Similar to Kelenna and Anthony, Cartier wasn't drafted and has been around the block couple of times. Its only the summer league, but he is putting up good numbers despite having curry+Randolph as teammates. The first game he scored 14points, and 27points the second game.

Last year, the Warriors found a gem in guard Anthony Morrow, who earned an invitation to training camp and, eventually, a spot on the team thanks to his performance in Las Vegas. Rookie forward Rob Kurz also made team after playing in the summer league for the Warriors.

Heading into this year's summer league, fans have wondered who could be the next to come from nowhere and make the Warriors' roster. Second-year swingman Cartier Martin might be the best hope.

Martin had 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting and four rebounds in 24 minutes. Afterward, he was kicking himself about two missed free throws and late layup.......................The Warriors hardly need another swingman, but the 6-foot-7, 220-pound Martin brings a little bit of the things the Warriors could use: toughness, rebounding, defense.

Cartier fits the mold, a Guard/Forward with a shooters touch. Don likes to stash them, and mold them so when opportunity comes they'll be ready.

He is certainly not close to Morrow or any of the others

Martin's been playing professional ball for a few years now. It's not like he's appeared out of nowhere. He played with Charlotte for the last couple weeks last season.

A guy who's played in Turkey and the NBDL for a couple years should definitely stand out in summer league play as a man among boys.

He may or may not succeed. But we have seen this story couple of times. Also remember he is playing along side curry & Randolph. Those guys hoist up a lot of shots. He is doing in limited opportunity.

It isnt happening....I'll bet you 25 tp's that he doesnt have a season that is close to Morrow or Kelenna's.  just because they have had success with an undrafted before, doesnt mean everyone will be a success.

After watching him play last year for the bobcats, he may have some potential to stick in the league if he keeps improving, but he is not going to be a difference maker

I don't know that  that should be the measuring stick because GS doesn't really have room for any more wing players, certainly not in their rotation.

Playing in Nelson's system, if you get minutes will artificially inflate your offensive numbers.

How many of these guys when they move to another team do as well?  It rarely happens.

I think Nelson is a pretty good coach when it comes to giving players a chance. But I do agree that you shouldn't necessarily expect their success to transfer to half court basketball.

Was surprised that Danny did not try and get Kelena. Didn't he play with Rondo at Kentucky. Then again maybe they were not close.
