Shoot for the Moon, Danny!

After the front page article(via twitter), I am excited at the possibility of going after Moon.

I realize he is young and ideally out of our price range. But imagine if we had some of the big three, not go and visit him, but maybe talk to him on the phone. That could probably do a lot to persuade a young guy like him. Offer him the Bi-Annual. I think he has a lot of potential.

But really I just like his last name.


*EDIT* I would prefer a sign and trade, but I really don't know what we could offer, even in expirings, that anyone would be interested in.

(1) Moon is a RFA, so Miami can match whatever we sign Moon to (think they would match the LLE?  I do).

(2) Moon started at SF for Miami for many of the games this spring.  They have a real need at the SF, and aren't just going to let him walk.

(3) Miami needs to show DWade that they are committed to winning -- they don't want Wade to bolt for NYK or CLE.  Hence, the last thing that Miami will do is trade Moon within the East, making it harder for the Heat to advance to the Finals.

In short, I can't think of a single trade scenario involving Moon that makes both the Heat and Celtics better in the short term (which is what both are focused on).

Why would he go to Cleveland? If anything it's New York or Chicago.

Why would he go to Cleveland? If anything it's New York or Chicago.

It's Chicago period (or he stays). Wade said he'd look at free agency but wouldn't want to go to NYC.

i have no recollection of ever having seen moon play, so i cant say anything based upon observation.

but his stats from the last 3 years compare very favorably with the other SF still left out there, or better. he is also 6' 8" which is a plus.

my questions are...

 - does anyone have any idea what sort of money moon would be asking?

- also, if boston can engineer some sort of sign & trade with miami, does this mean that moon would be able to be paid MORE than the LLE allows?

I don't have the answers to your questions, except that Moon would be asking for more than the LLE in my opinion. However I've found a scouting report (tips to Redsarmy) on Moon which seems pretty accurate, as far as I've seen him play this season (quite a few times actually) :

An outstanding leaper who was invited to the dunk contest, Moon is dangerous in transition and on alley-oop plays in the half court. He's also a decent midrange shooter (41.1 percent on long 2s last year) and foul shooter, so opponents have to play him for that.

They can close out hard, though, because Moon is a weak ball handler who rarely drives off the dribble. This did help keep his turnover rate quite low, however. Also, Moon fell in love with the J at times and would launch ill-advised tries early in the shot clock.

Defensively, Moon is still figuring out what he's doing but is a strong one-on-one defender. Because of his length he's great at stealing entry passes thrown by his own man, and he can play power forward in smallball arrangements (though, at 205 pounds, not in traditional lineups).

I think it's a safe bet to say Jamario Moon is looking for around 2-3 mill. The years might vary however.

And yes, if it was a sign and trade we not only could sign for more than the LLE, but still keep our LLE.

I don't see why they wouldn't want to keep him.  They seem pretty thin at wing.
