Why can't we get involved in one of these multi team deals where teams seem to be giving up nothing and getting something?  Suggestions anyone, rid ourselves of TA, one of Bill or JR, or Scal for some cap space?

Well they just lost there best player to FA, if they get Boozer along with Rose and a healthy Deng... it could draw a good FA either now or next year.
Rose was the best player on the team.
I thought Ben Gordon was the best player on the Bulls last season. Derrick Rose should become the best player next season.

That sounds like the base to a very good trade for all three teams (money wise for Utah).

Because the only players you want to get rid of have expiring contracts being their only value.

IMO, Utah would need to get Travis Outlaw in this deal or they are getting ripped off royally.

For those of you stating the need for money, what FA is going to go to Utah?

I saw somethin i liked that involved us trading for someone like Steve Blake or Miller.  Doesnt involve us giving up much, be getting a very, very solid back up pg in return, even though I am much more for finding a reliable defensive 3.

It's so Utah can re-sign Paul Millsap without having to pay almost $100 million in salaries next year. That's the financial benefit -- saves almost $25mil if they don't take back salaries.

Hinrich and Roy would be a very nice backcourt.  I like Boozer in Chicago too: huge upgrade over Tyrus.  Not sure why Utah's in such a big hurry to resign Milsap.  Nice player, but I'm not sure how far Williams, Okur, AK-47 and Milsap are going together.  Seems like a whole lot of pretty good and not much great.

I think this is great. Utah becomes younger, slightly more athletic, extends boozer, and gets rid of the one guy who they think will leave next summer.

Great for Portland too since they trade away guys who they knew were not in their long time plans.

Considering their salaries are currently at $65MM, are they going to pay Paul Milsap $35MM a year?

They sign Milsap, they are basically a few million over the cap, which means they can take BOTH Thomas and Outlaw without any worries.

Utah has a little under $75 million in salaries, which places them well over the luxury tax threshold. This is prior to signing Paul Millsap, which will likely take close to $10 million, bringing Utah near the $85 million mark.

Therefore, moving Boozer's $12.66 million would save the Jazz around $25 million next season after considering the luxury tax savings.

Can we get involved and get Travis. Portland is bound to trade him, and we can use him.

Yes, please!

What exactly is Portland giving up here? Or are they just taking in salaries with cap space and giving away a trade exception?

If they are only giving away a trade exception, one of their point guards (bayless or steve blake) may be available. Blake wouldnt be a bad backup PG though I would have to double-check his financials.

Here's how i see the trade:

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=m6kag7

makes alot of sense for everyone. chi gives up heinrich and thomas for boozer (in a contract year when he'll actually play hard / through injury). portland gives up blake and outlaw to get heinrich. utah gives up boozer to get thomas (who they keep) and outlaw and blake (both of whom i believe have only partially guaranteed deals) who they cut to make room for them to sign millsap under the luxery tax -- so essentially, thomas and millsap for boozer.

silver lining in this is outlaw could be available this summer -- not that the Cs will be able to afford him.

no -- utah needs him to be in the deal to save money considering his partially guaranteed salary, just like blake, if i'm correct about those two items.

the whole point for them is to a get a piece, ty thomas, and financial flexibility to sign millsap. i think thomas and millsap for boozer is an excellent deal for utah.

[dang] ESPN Trade Checker.  I thought they'd put qualifying offers and rookie salaries into the cap equation.  Apologize for the tone, but the $100 MM is hyperbole.  That said, the $25MM number is true.

Technically, that number has Milsap's qualifying offer of $1MM is in the $ and his first year salary will not be in the $10MM range.

IMO, Steve Blake would be more likely to be involved in the deal than Outlaw.
