NO Hornets and BBD/S&T for Posey

OK, so don't even know if this could numbers-wise. If NO is interested in BBD, and the only way they could get him is via S&T, would they C's be interested in bringing back Pose? They were reluctant to give Pose that extra year last year, but that year has now passed.

Thoughts? Would another team need to get involved to make this work because of base year compensation rules?

Interesting idea.  I think BBD is the better PF but Posey has flexibility to defend the 3/4.  So this might work out.  But I have no idea if NO would have any interest in this.  After all if BBD is a free agent.

If we're going to trade BBD I'd want to get a young piece in return...so if got Julian Wright and Posey, fine.  But if we're just talking about getting Posey, then no.

The few times I watched the hornets, Posey didn't do much for them. And Danny wanted Posey back for 2 years or so, not 4. Now one of those "good" years is gone, and Posey's contract still has 3 more years on it, the years that Ainge wanted to avoid. I'd rather have BBD over Posey at this point.

He's a FA, but I believe NO has not means to offer a FZ a contract. They would need to trade to make this work.

I think this isn't relevant. The point is;

1) We wouldn't have cap flexibility for an additional year
2) Posey's final year would be when he was 36, and Ainge estimated his decline a year earlier (which was why we offered him the 3 year deal in the first place)
3) It means we'd have Posey after the window of oppurtunity we have with the big 3, thus making him deadweight for about 1-2 years.

To be honest, I loved Posey when he was here. However, he didn't look that great in NO and already looked like he was on somewhat of a decline.

I want to win now, and we need a backup for Paul and someone else that can fill in at the 4 if needed. Posey fits that to a tee, plus he is your defensive stopper off the bench for wing players and he is another one that can space the floor.

No.  Posey is a bad contract, and Danny was right not to guarantee the fourth year.  That team has plenty of guys we could use to grow into a roles.  Much better deals:

BBD and BBD/TA or Pruitt for some combination of Rasual Butler, Julian Wright, Hilton Armstrong

BBD for Butler and Wright would be just what the doctor ordered.

Butler would be pretty good backup for Pierce / Ray. Absorbs the minutes, hit's the 3, low turnovers. It's like if Tony Allen was what we wanted him to be.

Posey's contract is still a bad one for the C's.  It still goes the extra year that Danny doesn't want to commit to a moderately-skilled (and in decline) wing player.  Sheed is a far better player that plays a position of greater need so giving him a contract that expires the same year as Posey's is comparing apples to oranges. 

Even though you're talking about 2 players making about the same $ for the same number of years, I consider it a no-brainer why you'd offer that contract to Sheed and not Posey nevermind considering Sheed's last year is an option and not guaranteed like Posey's contract.

Think of it from this angle as well to get a better perspective-->Doc has stated that Sheed is being considered as a possible starter.  Posey, even in his 1 year with the C's, was never in contention for a starting job.
