This deal can act as a catalyst to get a deal with Chicago done.  I don't believe Portland will give up Bayless to get the difference between Hinrich AND Milsap.

Maybe Steve Blake and Rudy Fernandez.

I don't see why the Blazers need Milsap. Unless they're looking to offload Aldridge or have given up on Oden? I hope neither, I think Portland have great potential and Milsap isn't a great signing for them.

Utah re-signed Okur, so they won't have any cap space next summer no matter what happens here, so it will just come down to how much they like Milsap.  They might also be able to get someone like Outlaw/Webester out of the deal and turn it into a sign and trade.

I think Utah wants Milsap just because he's more consistent.  Boozer is definitely the better player, but he's always hurt and his effort levels aren't known to be off the charts.  Out of the 5 years he's been with Utah, 3 have been injury plagued.  Also, Milsap's numbers as a starter were 16 and 10 which is similar to what Boozer gives you.  Utah can have Milsap for multiple years, while Boozer is probably gone in a year.  I think Utah's best bet is trading Boozer and resigning Milsap.

I think they're both as consistent and Boozer's the better rebounder. Milsap defends better though. I think it's more for 3 reasons;

1. Boozer has a history of injury problems
2. Milsap is younger and they can get him for cheaper than boozer at near same production
3. Boozer might leave next year without the Jazz getting anything in return. Might as well trade him now while his value is high.

I don't understand why Portland is so interested in power forwards. They already have 3 pretty good bigs in their rotation, while their wings are questionable. It just seems like they're dying to be mediocre.

Yeah, Milsap is a good, young player, but they've got Aldridge.  They would have been better off targeting Odom.

(Or, maybe that's Celtics bias, because I'd love to see the Lakers weakened.)

Well to be consistent you need to be on the court, Boozer doesn't give you that, he's hurt too often to be consistent.

I agree with you. Unless they have a feeling the LMA is not gonna accept their extension offer and might bolt, keeping Milsap as insurance.

I know that's unlikely, but I heard rumblings that Colangelo inadvertently threw a wrench into Pritchards plans. I know they wanted to offer LMA a 50-55 million deal over 5 years, but now that Bargnani got his cheddar, I'm sure LMA wants a lot more than that now.
