Is there any way that the Celtics could pick up a guy like Gerald Wallace from the Bobcats for his defensive abilities?

Gerald Wallace gets paid $9.1 million this year, which means we would need at least $7.9 million (within 15%) in salaries to make the trade work.

TA: 2.5m
Scal: 3.4m
Pruitt: .9m
Giddens: 1m

That should work.

However, if Wallace is on the market, Portland would get him first. They're very high on him and they just have way more assets such as picks that can make the trade work, while we can just offer cap relief which I'm not sure they are looking for.

You never know though.

Portland does have interest in Wallace, and Charlotte won't simply deal him for cap space/salary dump, per an article appearing this week in ESPN's True Hoop section.

Exactly my point.

One idea would be Carlos Delfino? Has the size to play the 2 and the 3, decent defender. Could be had for cheap. FG isn't great but has good 3pt fg% and had a PER of 14 which wouldn't be too bad for a backup.

He's RFA but ESPN's Chad Ford thinks TO's unlikely to match after signing Hedo.

I can only think of trades at the moment (all predicated on salary dumps by the other team). In no particular order:

1) Scal, Tony, and JR for Nocioni (SAC)

2) Scal and Tony for Posey (NO)

3) Baby (S&T), Scal, Tony, and House for J. Richardson (PHO)

4) Scal and Tony for Barbosa (PHO)

5) Baby (S&T), Scal, Tony, and JR for Rip (DET)

6) Scal, Tony, and JR for S. Jackson (GSW)

7) Scal, Tony, and House for Mags (GSW)

8) Baby (S&T) Scal, Tony, and House for Mags, B. Wright, and Belinelli (GSW)

9) Baby (S&T) and Walker/Giddens/Pruitt for Hakeem Warrick and D. Arthur (MEM)

10) The Big One:

Clippers trade Kaman and receive T. Prince
Celtics trade R. Allen and receive K. Hinrich and Rip
Chicago trades Hinrich and Deng, and receives R. Allen
Detroit trades Prince and Rip, and receives Kaman and Deng

Totally off topic, but your Cblog name always makes my mind immediately drift to this:

Delfino's an idea.  Not a whole lot better than the other options, but an idea.
