Agreed. Especially for what fits our needs.

Respectfully, I disagree. I think Udoka is a much better fit, because he's a better defensive player at the 3. Barnes is physical, but slow.

I like Herman, but IMO he is a 4th wing not a 3rd wing.  IMO settling for him or a Udoka to fill what I see as our biggest hole would be failure.

Once Wallace was signed, if Grant Hill doesn't work out, I think someone on the level of Udoka becomes the best-case scenario and I expect that the Celtics will actually sign someone a bit worse.

The Celtics don't need a good player as a back-up wing, they just need someone who Doc Rivers will play (although there is some correlation between the two).

I agree completely.  We aren't going to get a solid two-way player.  But we need a live body that Doc is willing to play.  What;s the old saying, "The perfect is the enemy of the good" ...

I can only think of trades at the moment (all predicated on salary dumps by the other team). In no particular order:

1) Scal, Tony, and JR for Nocioni (SAC)

2) Scal and Tony for Posey (NO)

3) Baby (S&T), Scal, Tony, and House for J. Richardson (PHO)

4) Scal and Tony for Barbosa (PHO)

5) Baby (S&T), Scal, Tony, and JR for Rip (DET)

6) Scal, Tony, and JR for S. Jackson (GSW)

7) Scal, Tony, and House for Mags (GSW)

8) Baby (S&T) Scal, Tony, and House for Mags, B. Wright, and Belinelli (GSW)

9) Baby (S&T) and Walker/Giddens/Pruitt for Hakeem Warrick and D. Arthur (MEM)

10) The Big One:

Clippers trade Kaman and receive T. Prince
Celtics trade R. Allen and receive K. Hinrich and Rip
Chicago trades Hinrich and Deng, and receives R. Allen
Detroit trades Prince and Rip, and receives Kaman and Deng

I like some. Another good one is Scal/Tony/Pruitt for Barbosa.

Also, most of your BBD trades seem to assume he's getting the full MLE. I think he's more likely to get within the 3-4m range.

udoka is too small at 6'5...looking like more and more a sumer time scrap heap signing for the wing, point and maybe power forward if baby goes

I like 1,2,6 and 8 a lot.  I don't think Phoenix is giving up Richardson (nor does DA want his contract) I like Barbosa but I'm not sure he and Eddie are a match they both like to shoot a lot. Don't want Maggette, don't need Rip or his contract.  (Still see him going to Utah)

I also like

Scal straight up for Outlaw (he's not in their future)
TA and Scal for Tim Thomas (he plays 3-5 and he wants to play with Ray again)

Although they would never do this, the perfect trade (at it fits financially) would be;

TA + Scal + Pruitt for Shane Battier

I may have just wet myself.

Is there any way that the Celtics could pick up a guy like Gerald Wallace from the Bobcats for his defensive abilities?

Gerald Wallace gets paid $9.1 million this year, which means we would need at least $7.9 million (within 15%) in salaries to make the trade work.

TA: 2.5m
Scal: 3.4m
Pruitt: .9m
Giddens: 1m

That should work.

However, if Wallace is on the market, Portland would get him first. They're very high on him and they just have way more assets such as picks that can make the trade work, while we can just offer cap relief which I'm not sure they are looking for.

You never know though.

It's amazing, even though I am so happy about the Sheed signing, we legitimately have a lot of work left to do to make this team truly capable of grabbing banner 18.

The market is starting to dry up...well maybe that's not the best choice of words.  But thing are definitely falling into place.  I think we need three things, with one of them being the most important.  That is a defensive minded back-up capable of playing the 2 and 3.

I truly think we can find someone to back up the PG spot and PF/C spot for 10-12 minutes per game on the cheap and that they don't need to be particularly  great.  That's just my opinion though.

One thing starting to concern me is this whole Europe thing. Steph says he's looking at it, and so does Parker. Childress already went. If you can't even get a Marbury who can you get? The league itself might take a downturn in talent due to this, meaning the players available might be displaced Euros and young guys.
Just a thought.

Who knows the Bobcats might decide to dump salary in hopes of signing someone better in the 2010 offseason?  From what I've read, Wallace would be a perfect backup at SF for Pierce though and brings great defense and quickness to the table.

Portland does have interest in Wallace, and Charlotte won't simply deal him for cap space/salary dump, per an article appearing this week in ESPN's True Hoop section.
