Varejao's stay in Toronto was a Short one. Probably overpaid to ship him out but now we can go back to hating him

Ha.  I'll be interested to see what the return is.

Me too.

What was the original trade that brought Varejao into Toronto?

Looked it up. Toronto sent out Aaron Brooks for Earl Watson and Anderson Varejao. Should be fun to see what the net gain for sending Aaron Brooks packing turns out to be.

Really like the move for the Suns.  Gives them a legitimate backup big man without giving up a rotational player.

Don't like it as much for Toronto.  I think they would have been better off just sliding Camby to PF when KG comes out and using both Big Z and Oberto as Cs.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
trade is:

Toronto Sends: Oberto

Phoenix Sends: Darrell Arthur

Phoenix understands that Arthur is a genuine prospect, but he's just that...a prospect, and I already have like 4 big man prospects on my roster, some who I like more but are less well known than Arthur. Maybe the Suns could've gotten more actual talent here, but Oberto is selling the gritty grabby defense Phoenix needs from the 5, as well as the chip experience we need to take us to the next level.

I dunno, we got a young energy guy off the bench that started 64 games last year, and played more minutes than Oberto.  Oberto was a 2 points and 2 rebounds guy, we got a 5 points and 4 rebounds younger guy that has championship experience at the college level and starting experience in the pros

A guy that couldn't get 20 minutes a game on Memphis that has no chance of starting this year with the addition of Randolph.

Oberto means more then his stats.  Voters have respect for his championship experience.

Im aware of that however I felt an energy guy that is young can learn from KG and be effective.  I respect what Oberto did in the past, but Arthur is a better fit for my team right now

Well Arthur might not get minutes ..... until Randolph is in jail, going full-time to Jenny Craig, tries to choke OJ Mayo for not passing him the ball out at the 3-point line, etc.

I guess you could play this as what "the voters" will prefer. But if the Celtics had Al Jefferson and Biedrins as their front line (as IP does), i"d sure want someone like Arthur, a Powe-type lunch pail guy, behind them than the calcifying Oberto.
