i guess not technically, but its cheating IMO, and were it to happen to me, i'd never talk to said GM again.

Right, it comes with its own consequences, but that's not a rule.  Roy's post made it seem like acceptance is official, when in some cases an accepted deal could be a miscommunication.  No one should assume that a deal is done until both teams send it off to the Commish.  That would cut down on some of the confusion.

I backed out of the deal because I felt I was giving up way to much in the deal.....8.8,9.4 and 9.6 all for the 7.4 and only to trade up for someone who will pry be there in the 8th round anyways. Not to mention if i did that deal my team would be shot cause i would have no picks till the 12th round cause I trade away some picks last night

But you agreed to a deal and backed out, thats the point.  Regardless of reason

Right, but there are some GMs here that get overzealous, and there are many ways that a response can be misconstrued as an acceptance, which creates some confusion.  I've personally dealt with this a few times (mostly from the same GM), who assumed every counter that he made was an accepted deal.

Since we can only communicate in PMs, there is a lot of room for confusion.  Don't bank on a trade until it's sent to the Commish.  I would bet that most of the reneged trades here have been as a result of a broken communication problem rather than a sneaky GM.  That's not anyone's fault, it's part of the dynamic on the online draft.

right, and that's a good rationale. the sticking point people are discussing is weather it's dirty pool to back out after you say "i'll take the deal" but before you send it in to the commish.

I don't know the specifics of what went down in your guys trade, so i can't comment on that. all i can say is if the above happened to me, I'd be very upset as the party who thought we had an agreed on trade in place.

Yeah, but from my perspective, it's not cool to back out of a deal just because you have second thoughts after you agree to it.  That's just my philosophy, though; word is bond and all of that.

Example:  I made a deal with another GM, where we got the better of it.  It was during the trade moratorium, and the other GM said "We don't like the deal for us any more, but we're going to live with it". 

He earned my respect with that, and built up a lot of good will.
