Can the Lakers resign Odom?

Hye guys I'm a little unfamiliar with the salary cap and whatnot but do the Lakers even have the money to resign Odom? I'm not sure if this has been asked yet or not.

It is my understanding that entering into the 2009/10 season that they are over the luxury tax threshold meaning that anything they offer LO would mean matching his salary dollor for dollar.  Can someone clarify this for me? 

If I am correct and they do not resign Odom I think they have a significantly worse chance of repeating next season.  Losing Ariza and Odom and replacing them with Artest?  No thanks.

Teams can go over the cap to resign their players.


So LA can resign him.

But suffer the wrath of a tremendous luxury tax similar to what the Knicks paid last year.

  They can go as far over the cap as they want to re-sgn their own players but if they go over a certain amount for all of the salaries combined they pay a dollar for dollar tax for however much they're over that level.

The only number that limits how much LA can give Odom is an internal-number..
