The fact that Danny failed to give Posey a 4 year deal a year ago does not mean he would not take him back now. First, a year has been used up, so there is only 3 years left. Second, with a little truth syrum, my guess is that Danny regrets not having met Posey's extra year, although KG's injury made that less of an issue. Third, management has been prety clear that luxury tax is not a driving issue for them, as they know their time to strike the iron is for the next two seasons, after which, let's face it, the wheels fall off.  I still think Posey makes alot of sense for us, and would be great playing with Rasheed.

Posey's getting older and his play will decline. If you look at his play over the 4 years his best year is probably gone. Also, his pay increases each year and the least expensive year is gone. Compared to last year the average price per year over the remaining contract is higher and the average contribution per year over the remaining contract is lower. It's a worse deal now than it was when Ainge passed on it last year.

Agree with Tim. I wish we would have paid him last year, but we didn't, and it is a worse deal now. The problem then was increasing costs for diminishing returns over too many years. Chances are, they valued him in Year One (last season) above his contract price, in Year Two (this season) at about his contract price, Year Three (next) below his contract price and Year Four (2011-12) way below his contract price. So they were willing to do 3 years on the theory it evens out - i.e., Year 1 pays for the loss of value in Year 3, when he's also an expiring contract. Adding that 4th year killed it. Now, you don't get the bonus of the first year to make up for the losses in the third and fourth years. So it's a worse contract.

Look, I'd personally do it because I love Posey irrationally - an oddity because I try to stay extremely rational -  but it's clear Ainge is just being rational. And being rational will tell you the deal is now worse than it was before.

Again, I'd still do it.
Go Celtics.

I don't get it.  If he's getting less then $5Mil a year, why don't we just re-sign him?

Not saying we shouldn't. But it probably depends on years, and we all know management is hard to predict when it comes to their perspective on our players and their future.

my point is IF the Cs decided they we'ren't going to match an offer like this, to me, this is the best possible scenario of talent in return and team he ends up on.

i'd also be open (as i was last year) to warrick and ross for baby.

The Hornets must have a thing for LSU players. They drafted Brandon Bass several years ago and were trying to resign him recently. They just got Marcus Thornton in the draft and picked Terry Martin to go to their Summer League team. Now they're wanting Big Baby.

Glenn is a good player, but the only real talent I would expect back is Julian Wright.  Maybe Antonio Daniels would be a reasonable backup, but he's locked into a 1 year contract.

So your line of thinking is they don't want to pay him his 5 million ( or whatever ) but, that they would trade him for players worth 5 million?

roy? sorry but you're the guru....

i can't find confirmation brown is on the vet min.....

We'll I just ran the ESPN trade machine, trading Brown to Boston for nothing, and it worked. I assume that means Brown is a min-level contract, but I could be wrong.

see my above edit. can a min player have an option?
I think they can. Just because a player is being paid the minimum doesn't mean he can't have a multi-year deal at the minimum. But what it does do is it stops the team from getting reimbursed for any money over the two year minimum player salary as only one year deals are subsidized by the league.

Here are some guys the Hornets are interested in, including Big Baby. Not sure if we'd want any of them or not. You can take Anderson off of the list.

Quote
The forwards on the Hornets' radar include Sacramento restricted free agent Ike Diogu, San Antonio unrestricted free agent Drew Gooden, Boston restricted free agent and former LSU star Glen Davis, Dallas unrestricted free agent and former LSU standout Brandon Bass, Cleveland unrestricted free agent Joe Smith and New York Knicks unrestricted free agent Chris Wilcox. At center, New Orleans is targeting two unrestricted free agents, Denver's Chris Andersen, a former Hornet, Atlanta's Zaza Pachulia.

Quote
New Orleans, San Antonio and Memphis have expressed interest in Davis, who averaged 15.8 points with Boston while filling in for injured starter Kevin Garnett during the playoffs this past season. The Celtics can match any offer for Davis, but he might be expendable after they reached a deal with Wallace.

Diogu, 25, is receiving only minimal interest and could agree to a deal for less than half of the $5.6 million mid-level exception. The Kings, however, have the right to match any offer. Diogu, a 6-foot-9, 250-pound power forward, was traded at midseason from the Portland Trail Blazers to the Kings after playing in 19 games and averaging 1.4 points. In 10 games with Sacramento he averaged 9.2 points.

Gooden, Smith and Wilcox are receiving minimal interest. The Hornets initially obtained Smith and Wilcox in a February trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder for center Tyson Chandler, but the deal was rescinded after Chandler failed a physical.

The Hornets might have difficulty obtaining Bass, who has drawn considerable interest on the open market and may be the subject of a bidding war. It could take a substantial portion of the Hornets' mid-level exception to sign him. The Hornets also remain interested in re-signing center Sean Marks, according to a league source.

um, yeah dude. they may not want to pay glen 5 for say 5 years, but i don't think it's too hard to imagine there are other players in the league the they may want to pay 5mil to, total, this year. cap management and player evaluation are a realtively big part of owning and running an NBA team.

Throw a 3rd team into this mix which is the Houston Rockets so that whatever happens we end up with Shane Battier!  Rockets needs bigs so they can have Armstrong and/or Wright, Celts get Battier and Hornets get BBD.

Can this work?
