Right now they pay $3,413,793 * 2 for Scal.
Let's say he agrees to a $2 million buyout. They trade Scal + 2 million to a team under the cap. Scal is bought out for $2 million. Scal resigns for vet min 1.5 (half is paid by the league.)
So the C's pay 2 + .75 + 1.5 for Scal or 4.25 instead of 6.8

But keeping Scal and Tony means they have 6 million in expirings to use at the deadline, and they can still make that kind of trade at the deadline to dodge the tax. So unless something better comes along, I guess Scal and Tony stay a while.
